No load shedding for City of Joburg residents;

Stage 2 load-shedding will continue throughout the weekend, but City Power customers in Johannesburg will be unaffected.

Eskom said earlier today that stage 2 load-shedding would be implemented from 09:00 on Friday until 06:00 on Monday 2 February.

However, City Power announced on Twitter that its Johannesburg customers would be unaffected by load-shedding as it has extra capacity available.

City of Cape Town residents usually have the same, but our Steenbras hydro power plant is undergoing routine maintenance, and will only be online again in March.

Strangely no LS here in S.Subs, CT although planned for 2-4.30pm...

my UPS light is still green and TV on.

I happen to have a few tips for Eskom and local municipalities:
Party less and spend less to be able to afford Converting all street lights and traffic lights to solar power.
That way you will save electrify, expenditure on electricity and take a huge burden off the grid.
Hell, you might even have more money for parties after that has been done.

I know some municipalities tried this awhile ago. The project had to be abandoned due to the Solar Panels and associated hardware being constantly stolen.

Yes, I thought about that before I wrote my comment and I agree with you, but what other choice do we have these days? Maybe they could place that equipment high up on the poles out of reach and maybe bar it up or install a energizer and wire below the equipment to shock them if they get up there? As I am typing right now, I am thinking to my self how ridiculous I must sound, the measures we have to take to prevent theft. Just look at how much we spend on our own home security: Building high walls around our houses, electric fences, burglar alarms... The list just goes on and it runs into thousands of rand per household. BUT what else can we do?

In Durban for example, in the CBD by the ICC they tried it, the panels were up on a 20m (or something of the sort).... within the first week they'd been stolen.

Cape Town's solar panels still sit high on their poles and roofs. That's the CBD and surrounds though. Im sure it's a different story in the Cape Flats...

Power just went out here, and only scheduled for 2200 tonight, another good story to tell.

Unplanned down sharply from last night. I suspect the weekend LS is more to top up the pumped storage and diesel for the gas turbines so they can be used during the week, which might mean no LS during the week.

Actually I had no shedding planned according to the durban map. Either the ANC broke something else or they have moved me into region 4 for shits and giggles.

Do a YouTube search on "cable theft electrocution". The risk that people take to steal cable is unbelievable. Some of them however, come off second best. While this is happening, we sit here with load shedding which is killing our economy and costing us money in the form of fuel and running generators. Also due to theft and corruption at Eskom and any attempt at relieving the load off the grid is also thwarted due to theft! This is not acceptable to me.

In my house we have installed gas stoves and solar greasers..... We can't run off any less power than we currently use. TVs and computers unfortunately don't run off paraffin. Another cost added to our house besides security.

Here's an idea. Let's buy a crank generator. Place it near the couch in front of the TV set. As long as somebody cranks it the TV will work. Damn, I think I should patent that idea!

Too late, crank generators for those sorts of things were patented ages ago....

Even did big business in Africa with Crank Radios.
