Stage 1 loadshedding from 9am Monday

long hours but otherwise pretty nice to only see shedding every couple of days.

Also have four hours of load shedding at a time, sometimes twice a day. Problem isn't just the loadshedding, but the fact that every single time we have loadshedding something at the substation trips and we're without power for a good 6 - 9 hours.

We had no power for 14 hours on Friday and Saturday :-(. Some parts of the suburb didn't have power for 36 hours, still no word on Kelvin.

I was almost disappointed when they decided not to loadshed us last night. I guess they had enough power cuts elsewhere not to bother to drive out to our substation.

I have come to the conclusion that inverters repel loadshedding. Since buying one, we've had far less.

Don't go fcking jinxing it!

I got mine ages and ages ago and nothing happened for about 3 years after getting it, than I used it a lot, than it went quiet for awhile so it comes in waves.

Strange how not one news outlet cares enough to investigate what happened to Kelvin Power station

Got a feeling someone in JHB Council got cold feet when they were challenged on the legalities and opted out of using Kelvin power. Hence the sudden silence.

Same here in PTA. As soon as someone started asking about Rooiwal and the PTA West PS, the system clammed up and nothing was forthcoming.

Can someone explain why on stage 2 we had over 30 hrs. a week, now on stage 1 it's only 8 hrs.???
(Partially due to luck of the next week I'll admit, but still, a HUGE difference...)

If only things were done properly, and consistently. Maybe then we'd all be more tolerant, for a while anyway.

Same issue in our suburb. They were out on Friday for 6-7hrs and again on Sunday for 14hrs. This is Sundowner. I wasn't affected by these issues as we are on a different substation.

I had less last week on Stage 2 than I do this week on Stage 1? I think it's luck of the draw?

It's not a linear thing. The longer you are out for, the longer your loads will kick in for after loadshedding. Affects the peak demand etc.

Think Geysers and Fridges. After Stage 2, they will be working harder to recover.

Load shedding has never been a rational or constructive way of dealing with power shortages. It is a blunt instrument that affects some more than others, and saves limited power. It is a mark of desperation, not a solution.

Scheduled from midnight to 4:30
Power been off since just before 4pm, major substation trip on the Eskom side in Randvurg.

Which is why it's astounding that so much of this crisis going ahead could be alleviated by a few strokes of a pen to lift restrictions on private generation. I keep hearing from people in industry about how they were generating excess power and in some cases feeding it back to the grid but this was stopped.

In any case, Joburg is using Kelvin for 10% of the city's supply but there is currently a cable problem: https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/...after-kelvin-power-station-goes-down-20200203

when do you have to start rationing the load when running on batteries and there's no power?

A cable problem for over a week? And no updates on that.

I have 10kwh but I think 2.5 of that may be faulty, waiting for the vendor to troubleshoot for me.

Theoretically should be good for in the region of 12-15 hours depending on load. All heavy consumers are off.

after 3 and a quarter hours.
If it runs out in the middle of the night so be it.
