Stage 8 load shedding warning

Yeah goedkoop is duurkoop, plus the smaller alarm, gate and garage motor lithium drop in batteries are not that expensive.
Nope they aren't, you end up paying maybe 3 times more, but you'll have them much longer

Yes this 100%. Otherwise you’ll be replacing lead batteries every 2 years.

Lead (regardless of ‘deep cycle’ or otherwise) must never be discharged to below 50% state of charge otherwise they are permanently damaged.
Also while you’re at it make sure your charger/hybrid inverter supports lithium batteries. Most don’t. If you still use them though you will over time destroy the lithium batteries as the voltages aren’t correct.
2 years? With stage 4 its every 3 months :(

I’d love to agree with you but they are never really ‘drop in’. You always have to upgrade the charger to support lithium chemistry. Otherwise you’re not doing the batteries any favours

To be honest, I am yet to see any proof of a lithium drop in battery that was damaged from being charged with a lead acid charger, besides the charger not being able to charge them to 100%, which won't affect the batteries.

Many people have upgraded to lithium with their basic inverters, also no reports of destroyed batteries, yes it is not an ideal setup but if I did have them on my gate and other applications I wouldn't waste more money upgrading the charging circuit, but I am a chance taker so no one should take this as technical advice.

We had it for 4 hours from 6pm to 10pm, can't really gauge it on that.
We had it for long enough to be a significant problem. Back up batteries for various small devices didn't recharge. Alarm battery needed replacing. Garage door. Sliding gate. Still, it certainly helped push us towards solar which is where we are now happily :)

4 hours is the norm here. Anything that indicates "loadshedding", 4 hours.
No I'm saying stage 6 was only for 4 hours. Then it went back to stage 4.
Yes in JHB we had 4 hours until February 2021, I do miss it as honestly we would actually have days off.

Conclusive proof that the Cape Republic should go independent. We can hand over our power station to some Ex-Eskom engineers that will more than likely do a much better job. And then cut off the rest of South Africa.

Stages four through eight are identical for us Gqeberhistanians anyway. Local industrial areas will take the hit as they only get shed from four.

Have we ever hit even stage five, let alone higher?
Got stage 6, All Mines were Instructed To recall all personel as it was too dangerious to sustain operations. Was before Lockdown

Rather spend more and go lithium
Yes, something I only realised after I'd bought cheaper lead-acid gel batteries was that although they cost half, you only get 50% or less of the stated capacity as usable, whereas with Li-Ion or similar you get a good 90 - 95% usage of the stated capacity. So 102Ah on lead-acid is NOT the same as 102Ah on Li-Ion.... Really time batteries were advertised at their Cost per usable capacity, a bit like we see R/kg for weighted produce.

Like most unthought through independence plans I see a massive hole here.
The power stations belong to eskom the South African government.
If this cape independence were to happen, do you think government would just hand over any western cape power stations?
And with no real power production in the western cape do you think been execulded from the national grid would work out ?
Western cape would still be a net importer of power. Which would be interesting what’s the plan to pay for ?
What currency would a new cape country use ?
Can’t just keep using the rand with out a currency Union which would give the SA government great power, new currency’s take a lot of time to work out and stabilise.
Generally the independence people are not deep thinkers, same reason why no one is thinking about the masses they are going to be stuck with by the time the independence happen, all we need to do is to build a yuuge wall, relax and behold as the hungry masses devour them.

I am so sick and tired, The demand is ..bla

Now becouse the same, Criminals, yet again!!! As with every thing , looked to get some more R1000 000.00 into the palms , we are having this

If this bull is not fu.... up every intervention, like the power chips , and all these companies, that can with immediate effect, add clean electricity to the grid...

But , no .... it is better for SA to sit in stage 8 , than the elites losing thier money

And of course, anything to stop any investigation......

Are you honestly telling me , that we don't have the experience and knowledge available, to be asked , to move in , to get all the stations sorted , they can even be on loan , and fvs it does not matter what thier calour is

Becouse my fellow South Africans this is snd should be called , a national Desaster

Call it minister , so we can get Private sector everyone, involved

And while you busy their, have a look , at this Diesel contract , that is running into biljoens every month

I suppose that Cyril Ramaphosa knows more about the technicalities in electricity generation than the so called experts at Eskom. He is the President after all. :crying:
In a way it would be good to hit Cyril Ramaphosa & Fossil Gwede & NERSA & Eskom with Stage 8 or worse so that they wake up and actually do something.

These fools have been treading water, wasting time, hoping the problem will magically fix itself.

I'm not confident as I'm not aware of new generation capacity being added.
Please enlighten me if there is additional capacity being currently added.
