Standalone fan speed controller

Thing is if they don't you basically bought the wrong fans, so either what upup suggested, variable resistor or lower the voltage some other way.

Do you have the fans yet? How many wires do they have? If 3 one of them is sense /tachometer and it will work fine. Pwm stands for pulse width modulation, basically send pulses of power to the fan to set it to a specific speed...

I have the fans already yeah, and they do have 3 wires.

You could buy 2 controllers, 1 set at 23degree second one at 27degree. 23 degree one switch fan on via 1k resistor, fan runs 50%. when second controller switch on, fan runs at max for a while.

Ahh, then It's @upup suggestion, vr or bust
Damn, wish I had researched this a bit before buying.
Oh well, I'll first just let them run at full speed and take it from there. If it's noisy then I'll look at a vr

A variable resistor is so cheap though, why not go get one and do the install.

EDIT: And soldering is so much fun, especially when you have 3 arms.

EDIT: I just noticed the sound level on your fans is only 30db, that's less than ambient, so if they are mounted far enough away from things they'll be quiet at max speed.

Lol.. luckily I have one of these buddies:

What I do need to do is practice soldering a bit more. I only whip it out (the soldering iron that is) when I need it, I should take some time to mess around to improve my soldering skills.

I think I'm overthinking the fans a bit, will first just get everything set up next week and then take it from there.

That's brilliant, I need one of those.
