Standard sim in USB modem = ? speed

Yes it can, and the E220 is capable of 7.2Mbps HSDPA.

Thanks Park , is it also just a "plug and play" configuration . I will test it tonight , I will try the MTN sim and then the Vodacom sim and see which one gives me the best results .

Yea I have a Vodacom E220 but are able to use a MTN sim without problems (and hopefully Telkom prepaid 3G soon). Test both on www.speedtest.net you also might want to check out ginggs's app: http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma to see wich one gives you the better signal.

O.K. Got home and inserted the sim card and everything is working fine . Now how do you tell how many megs you have left , do you have to remove the sim card, insert it into a phone and then dial and request your available data ??

register on www.vodacom4me.co.za > my account > data bundles will give you the balance.
