Standardbank Debit question...

Ok so according to Standard bank I had a credit card at one or another stage through them and it's not being paid. I have no idea of this but let's leave it there for now. (I have one with them, this is for another apparently )

They deducted R 3000+ from my account without any authorization and allocated it as payment to this "Credit card"
They can't do that can they? I'm off to the bank in a bit and I'm going to slap someone very hard... Just go into your account and debit money they claim is owed to them. No notice, no court order nothing...

What recourse do I have?

Well they will have to prove that this credit card was issued to you, and used by you..

But yes, they can just automatically deduct the money from your account if you "owe" them and the card was accurately issued.

I'm going to cause about R 3k worth of damage at that Standardbank branch today. No notice, no letter, no nothing. They did it once before and I went to the bank. Thought it was sorted. Now a year or so on, another? Fk it, closing that account. Useless fk'ng tards.

Sympathies.

I stomped my foot down very hard on SB when they tried that trick with me, several years ago.
I forbade them to do it again.
I now pay my card by transfer from my cheque account each month and they don't bother me.

Mind you, it does sometimes take a bit of shouting at SB (especially their good-for-bloody-nothing outsourced call centre) to get your point across.

I hope you come right.
Otherwise, break some more stuff for the rest of us.

Thats why I avoid credit with the institution I bank with. Cost is convenience though.

lol, should have seen their faces when I cut up my savings card, credit card and cheque account card infront of them and threw it around the office. Turned around and walked out, manager in toe trying to speak to me. Kept walking to the car, got in, started it and left. Got to the office now and I see they tried to phone me 8 times :D

Done with these retards. Enough is enough. Same bloody problem as 2 years ago and they have still not resolved it or refunded me the first debit they made back then. So in all R 5k odd school fee's...

Man I feel so good. Now to move all my damn debit orders and I don't have my card number to log into internet banking

Well done.:D

I don't quite understand why more of us don't throw tantrums at poor banking service providers.

But I kinda screwed myself now. I need the damn card number to log into internet banking :D

I think I have it written down at home somewhere... I'll just put the minimal amount in the cheque account for the credit card monthly. Will transfer all my credit out of my cheque and savings accounts. Done with them. I was so annoyed... then you have the manager saying: "Sir I fully understand your frustration" He doesn't understand SHYTE!

It might be on one of your statements

Edit: Confirmed that card payments on my electronic statement reflects my card number.

Note to self: don't forward electronic statement to anyone!

That is REALLY surprising. We have threatened to close our accounts many times and they just look at us with that "we don't actually give a ****" look...

Did you at least get your money back? Otherwise I would open a case of fraud.

Think the fact that I cut up my cards infront of the manager and threw it in his office actually drove the point accross pretty bluntly.

Hellopeter works well, R5000 worth of lawyer time is not much...

Small claims court could also be an option.

I hate Standard Bank.

I took out my study loan with them as my father has an account with them so it was supposed to be easier.

Even before I signed everything and was a customer, they treated me like I owe them money.

And then I made the mistake to think they would cancel my cheque account if they see I'm not using it anymore...no, not the case, they billed it into -R650 (more or less) for 4 freakin years.

I'll NEVER go to Standard bank ever again.

I had a similar problem with them..

Standard Bank Savings account (one where I could never get an overdraft or go into a negative balance)... I tried to cancel Internet banking back when it was a paid for service, turns out they didn't cancel it... I just left the account with like R20 in it and moved to another bank, year or two later get a call from Std bank saying that I owe them money, intrigued I go into the branch to find out whats what... when they told me, I stripped my moer at the branch manager and informed them to close the account and that I wouldn't pay a cent.. they refused, I walked out.. they phoned a few times after that for their money, I laughed at them and hung up..... never paid them, the account magically disappeared after a few years as well...
