According to Standard Bank twitter page, its back up: "Update: Our technical issues have been resolved. All services are currently recovering. Apologies for the inconvenience."

Was with ABSA and could not believe the poor service and archaic systems. Switched to Std bank and while they where OK back then they where pricey. Now with Nedbank savvy and could not be happier. Everything just works.

A lot of people are looking at FNB as an alternative to Std bank right now but they have even more downtime on their systems than Std bank its just not reported as well.

I flipped my lid when I realized I was paying R 2.00 per swipe on my STDbank card... R 2.00!!!! There was a credit card issue as well. I just had enough. I hardly carry or withdraw money anyway. With FNB I get 4 withdraws free of charge from an FNB ATM. More than I need. They also settled my lone account and gave me better interest than I was paying on the STDbank one.

To me it's more about the service than the rates. I was going to move anyway no matter the rates or charges.

Clearly it is account dependent as I have no charge for swiping my Standard Bank card.

As for service, similar to my argument when it comes to an ISP, I prefer to never have to communicate with my bank so I prefer to focus on costs rather than service.

Since I have been with them, I have never struggled to get my money out.

Nor me with Standard Bank.

No, I don't "work for them", I just find these mine is bigger than yours discussions silly. All banks have issues. All banks are ripping us off. Claiming one bank is perfect seemingly demonstrates falling for their extensive marketing campaigns...

I had: 1 savings account (Personal), 1 cheque account (Personal), 1 Cheque account (Business), 2 credit cards (1 personal, one business) and a revolving credit with them.

I had dealings with the bank at least once every 2 weeks.

All my meetings with FNB to date has been nothing but pleasure. I'm sure banks are like shoes, there is no one fits all. FNB currently is my best option. Nedbank is just too expensive and their branches too far from where I am.

It all started when they launched this new banking app that doesn't even work.
