Standing desks: good or bad idea?

My dad stood in a PC workshop for many years, because sitting meant that he was constantly getting up and down to get stuff around the workshop.

15 years later, this coupled with a poor diet including the usual pizza fridays etc. resulted in him having type 1 Diabetes, varicose veins in his legs and neuropathy in his feet up to his lower shin. The podiatrist suspects that standing caused blood to be continuously pooling in his feet which was probably one of the main contributory factors to his current problems.

How about an article using desks that are available in ZA?

It's a terrible idea in the same category as open plan offices.

I suppose a balance is needed.

Once you get a really decent chair you won't care. And they're usually R3000+

Where can buy such a chair? Can someone send me banking details with an amount?

I am desperately looking to stand all day.

This sounds exactly like that exercise ball idea which everyone punts as good for your core muscles, while in fact it's very bad for your bad.

I agree you shouldn't be sitting all day long but taking the proper breaks make more sense to me than simply standing all day.

Maybe a convertible desk would be the best solution?

standing for 12 hours? a good idea? ok then

I never said you had to stand for all of the 12 hours you slave away at whatever sweatshop you are working for.
