Star Citizen

Noticed a lot of Elite players moving to Star Citizen because of the debacle with the Odyssey update. Seems a bit premature considering SC doesn't really have its gameplay loops fleshed out yet. Guess they must be really pissed with Elite

Looking at bugs and all one would think Elite is in a waaay better position than SC.

I am quite certain the video I posted came to being due to ED: Odyssey. It is a mess, and I am glad that I didn't get into it as I said I would. The ED community at large still plays ED: Horizons. Yeah, people are pissed at Frontier, and I do know that Frontier is actively patching Odyssey, but I do believe that this has given the SC community the opportunity to take a dump on ED. The ED Steam reviews took a sharp dive.

Star Citizen, in the state in which it is in, it only works as long as you have players to role-play.

ED loyalists will still play Horizons.

I am surprised the criticism is only reaching boiling point now. 2-4 weeks ago there was little to no noise, so I guess this sparked on some discussion board. The community should know that Odyssey did release as a true alpha in March only available to Frontier Pass holders and those who pre-ordered the module on Frontier, and then it launched in mid-May on Steam. The mistake Frontier made was to drop the Alpha status, and they wouldn't have sat in the mess they are in now.

Yup, this is basically spot on. I played quite a bit in the Alpha 2.7-ish days with a bunch of other people and had loads of fun but most of those people no longer play and playing solo isn't really much fun.

Cloud Imperium receives ASA warning over “concept ships” in Star Citizen

Complaint criticises developer for marketing items that are not actually usable in-game

Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium has received a warning from the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) for encouraging players to purchase in-game ships that are not actually usable.

According to Eurogamer, a complaint was submitted to the ASA by Reddit user Mazty, who wrote that they were "fed up of CIG and the constant lies."

The complaint follows a July marketing email that encouraged Star Citizen players to buy a "concept ship" before it leaves the store. The email fails to disclose that the ship in question -- the Gatac Railen -- does not actually exist within Star Citizen yet.

The ASA has reportedly assessed the submission, and agreed that the wording that described the concept ship "could have been made clearer."

...

Cloud Imperium has added a disclaimer in a similar, more recent email regarding in-game ships. The disclaimer states that the items on offer are a "limited concept pledge" and explains that "the vehicle is in development but is not ready to display in your Hangar or fly in Star Citizen."

This was to be expected, but I checked my email, and I wasn't invited to purchase the Gatac Railen though I did receive its introductory email on June 12th, so I presume that it was only made available to those who participated in the Q&A?

It is also not available to be purchased any more, or so I have it when I looked at it now. I can only purchase the collectible pin set which includes the ship (as a pin).

They definitely need to be clearer about this, if you're not familiar with the SC lingo then this doesn't clearly tell you that you can't use this ship yet. You do have a 14 day refund window once you find out your mistake though but that's still a hassle.

Are you a Jump Point Subscriber?

I dunno how much greedier these chaps can get. Selling stuff that isn't even in the game?

If they have cash flow issues after all the money they have gotten, there must be some serious pilfering going on.

Star Citizen Has Now Raised $400 Million And It's Still Not Fully Out

Star Citizen is still in alpha even after generating over $400 million in funding.

Star Citizen has passed another milestone. After hitting $350 in crowdfunding earlier this year, Roberts Space Industry.com reports that funding has just soared past $400 million despite the fact Star Citizen is still in its technical alpha.

~3.3 million backers, average $121 per backer. This excludes all other investments into CIG.

I was watching their ship lot sales today, people are buying ships with no regret. Most ships are sold out already.

Crypto bros, yoh.

For those with RSI accounts, there are Christmas claims,

according to RSI it will all be available until December 22.

Star Citizen isn't even released, and CIG is already talking up studio expansions and regional expansions... and sequels to Squadron 42.

Jones suggests that while the potential to expand the new Manchester studio beyond its planned 1000-person capacity exists, the world is practically CIG’s oyster. It might be Europe or the US that CIG heads to next. The point is that CIG will increasingly resemble an online game publisher, “we’ll still have huge development resources, because by that time we’ll be developing the sequel and sequels for Squadron 42.”

Woah there! Let’s wind that back a bit. Sequels for Squadron 42? as in, more than one?

I have to ask, why would anyone want to invest in CIG when they have nothing to show other than ship sales and a tech demo?

A 5-year plan...

However, the news last November that CIG’s main development studio in Cheshire would be moving to Manchester’s Enterprise City, site of the Old Granada Studios, with a view to expanding operations to 1000 staff within five years, seemed to suggest that while we may never know where Star Citizen will end up or what state it will be in when it gets there, we can at least put an ETA to when that that might be: Five years from now, if our maths is correct, is the year 2027.

I said somewhere back in this thread that I won't be surprised to see this studio being acquired during the game's development process, remember Digital Anvil being acquired by MS sending Chris Roberts on his way... well. Time will tell.

The persistent universe alpha, while quite buggy, is the most beautiful game I've played and the in-game events have lead to some of the best gaming moments and emergent situations I've experienced in years. It's worth a pledge when on sale or checking out during a free weekend.

Well, SQ42 might be "finished" but the PU will probably never be. It will (hopefully) expand in terms of places to visit, things to do and such, but if it is to become the "metaverse" it seems they want it to be it for everyone, then it will probably never be finished, however hopefully it will at least reach a version 1.0.

As with all things, once people are invested, they support it. Just like NFTs, those who have invested in these blockchain technologies are those who best support NFTs.

Hype is an investment strategy.

I have a minimal investment in Star Citizen, enough to give me access to the game and SQ42.

I bought the cheapest ship package on a discount sale to check it out. There's plenty of working gameplay to have fun with friends, easily worth more than many "finished" games. I didn't put any funds into the project until it had proven playability and content. I have earned enough funds in the game to buy three more fully functional ships without using real currency. I get the sense that I've been branded as a "fanboy" by the last few posters, but I only invested after 10 years of development when there's actual value to be had.

Don't bash it until you've played Jumptown or Xenothreat with a group of buddies.

This seems appropriate

Just finished a Xeno one with Spaceport Orison (SA Group), was super fun. Hope the Xeno events are still on tomorrow, I'm having so much fun in those turrets. I must also say, as an Elite Dangerous player (been years), star citizen is more fun in one system.
