I've got an Aurora starter package ($60) but did upgrade to an Avenger Titan so my total spent is now $85.
You could wait for the next free fly and try it out. Performance for me in the current 2.6 builds is pretty janky though so have not been playing a lot lately but did play a lot during alpha 2.5.
Big update coming up next which includes some of the first professions and planetary landing tech - we should have an estimated date for when we'll get this within the next few weeks when they release their next production schedule. Just don't expect this update too soon, it'll probably be Q3/Q4 if I had to take a guess.
There's a thread somewhere on the forum.
Found it: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/561352-Star-Citizen/page35
I'll only give it a go once it is fully released.
I think Ill leave this a year then.... but its got so much potential, I hope they dont screw it up.
I'm interested in Star Citizen, but not enough to spend money on it yet. If it's good, I'll buy it after it releases.
I'll remind you in 10 years![]()

ANSWER THE CALL

Ive played more Arena commander in Star Citizen, for the R800 bucks I paid for a 325a back in the day, than ive played in other AAA titles for around the same price.
if you enjoy a space simulator, a starter ship wont break the bank, and the joke is long gone about it never being completed, according to other titles, they still have plenty time left before anybody should get concerned.
Either way, you can play 3 modules now, all really fun and will keep you busy for hours.
Squadron 42, about 2 more years for Star Citizen.

Hehe, last year it said 2016.
I'm really looking forward to SQ42 though. I think we're going to be in for a visual treat when we eventually get to see it.
The game being eventually completed is irrelevant, it is whether they can continue to develop the game and whether they will not cut the development short. Everyone, the backers (I, included) know the debacle. Just prior to them moving to Amazon Lumberyard, Chris Roberts' stated that they have enough capital to complete the game, but that they need more people to back the game and not pulling out. The game will launch, eventually, but we hope to have it wholly baked. They made many promises, it is only that I don't want to see No Man's Sky repeated, and there has been some controversy whether it is the truth or not.
With a project of this size and with this much public visibility, controversy is inevitable at some point.
I do have to admit though that lately it looks like they have a lot more focus and it appears they have more solid plans. Anything could happen though I believe Chris Roberts would quite possibly sell his own organs to get this game out.
He must, his integrity rests on every statement he had made. Many promises had been made in Around the Verse, other interviews and at game conventions. He put up the challenge, better meet the expectations. Earlier on, CIG, could have engaged better with early backers.
Is anyone playing this game? Im really interested in it.... okay, perhaps not for the $15 000 USD super digital deluxe version of this game, but I am looking at trying out an entry level package.
Anyone taken the plunge?
