I'm not sure about the temperature argument, that seems to be something they added around the prequels so they could add extra effects around doors being cut etc. Waving something around at the massive mentioned temps would probably give everyone welder's eye immediately

So if we ignore it being hot, then I'm guessing it should just cleanly cut like they showed before with arms etc. being lost, which people survived just fine.

Based on that I'm going with unless if it hits a major artery, organ or your spine then you might make it.
