StarCraftII announced

After seeing a few gaming video clips I can see its just a graphical rehash of the original SC, its not a bad thing ( aka C&C 3 is also a graphical rehash ) but I at least expected some of the latest RTS innovations brought forward by CoH, Supreme Commander & DoW to show up in the SC sequel.

Here I hope for some sort of tactical advantage of firing distance and accuracy from units on higher ground, cover system, etc. Is that too much to ask if you've been waiting for 10 years for a sequel to move along with time?

Blasphemy!

This will be the best RTS to ever grace the world.

I agree with BC ;)

Starcraft as it stands is nigh perfect, the only thing I ever wanted was better squad management. The beauty of starcraft was always how easy it was to get into, but balanced against the complexity of your strategic and tactical options. It wasn't about uber micro like Warcraft three.

I played SC again a few months ago, and even against newer games like Dawn of war (which I loved don't get me wrong) SC has a balance magic that is untouched in 9 years.

Hehehe... just wanted to see your reactions. :p

Personally I wont have too high hopes and will prefer to be surprised by a nice demo in the future. SC was great & balanced after +20 patches for online gameplay. Single player was another story as it was simply glorious. If Blizzard can develop the single player storyline into a jewel then I wont have any qualms about the game. :)

But on a perfectionist note, 10 years have passed and to be honest the RTS field has moved on to new standards.SC2 will NOT break those standards as it will simply elevate the same great classic game with a new face, just like C&C 3 has done. Good for the casual gamers & devoted fans, nothing new for the RTS "Sim" fans that grew up with TA & adhore Supreme Commander & CoH of today. ;)

YAY!

They are bringing out a sequel to my favourite strategy game of all time?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!

I must disagree, useless. Every time Blizzard has introduced an RTS onto the market, it has changed the face of RTS gaming. I don't see why SC2 would be any different. Blizzard a great innovators and I doubt they'd avoid innovation for SC2.

Not, they've told one or two of the blogs they expect to release around October. I love the comments about unlimited budget :)

well blizz have scored BIG time with WOW, with the amount of cash they have they can afford to do anything they want.

october this year will be awsome, but i heard they only in the pre alpha test phase, lets hope this isnt true.

Really? Lets see :

Starcraft released 10 years ago and it became an instant classic of note. No issues about that.

Warcarft was released. Good RTS.

Warcraft 2. Nothing new. Just a sequel where unit spam won the day.

Warcraft 3. 3D perspective, fewer unit count, crazy micromanagement. GOSU gamers heaven, good RTS. 3D had been done earlier in Ground Control & TA anyhow.

Then nothing until SC2 is to be out from Blizzard in RTS terms and you give them the RTS crown?

IMO what changed the face of RTS gaming was the original Dune 2, C&C ( first one ), Total Annihilation, Starcraft, Ground Control, Dawn of War, CoH & Supreme Commander most recently.

SC2 has a LOT to offer if it wants to be the king of the hill. But by sticking to identical game mechanics of a 10 year old title i dont think so. Not saying it wont be fun but sadly it wont be anything new. ;)

I honestly hope they can improve on what SC had to offer and till 2008 they got plenty of time to do so since we got the likes of World At War, Halo Wars and other strong RTS games coming up soon.

Lets be honest, and this is by Blizzards own admission, they've never "innovated". Blizzards skills are in perfecting an already "good" formula. They're like the Apple of the gaming world. The ipod wasn't the first disk based music players, but it hit the nail on the head in terms of what consumers wanted. Likewise with all Blizzard games.

All I want from starcraft 2 is: better mass unit management (like DoW/BFME/C&C3 group based units) and some new and interesting toys and tactics, 3D's loverly, but I'd just like it to run on my ****y PC.

What I see in Blizzard games is that they always get the formula right. Very decent story lines built over the 3 IPs. Multiplayer was relatively easy to get into and esp for SC and WC is the customisation that is allowed. The games that were introduced never were very creative in terms of new features for a type of game but they made sure things were simple. Simple that everyone who played can learn to play it in a few clicks (Diablo though is notorious for this).

Also Blizzard's support for the game. Don't see companies updating their games through pataches 6-7 years after their release which is great and made sure the game is still balanced and enjoyable.

Must say though seeing the same races and almost the same units in SC2 really looks more like an expansion with better graphics than anything else. Was really hoping the protoss-zerg hybrid or the Xel Naga would be added. But anyways let's hope it's decent.

Something just popped in my mind... imagine DoTa in SC2...

/faints

awwww man :( you just had to spoil it for everybody

"new in DotA starcraft 2... TWO maps! thats right! TWO!" .... *pats Ruslan74 on the head*

Apparently that is the case - they're looking to focus on mass battles and resource management, not uber micro.

/ agree

Its the same SC style gameplay, a few new units for balance, new 3D engine, New storyline and same hero units.

what i heard is the game is over 100 hours game play!! the story line is epic.....further to that * Nuclear launch detected*!!!! WOHOOO /fleeeee:eek:

I doubt one will still find the SC Battlechest boxset, you can still buy SC & Broodwars on the BestSeller budget range, I think both of em are boxed together for a measly R99... :)

im so excited :) downloaded all the gameplay videos and started playing starcraft again , its a awesome game even if it old
