State capture inquiry begins

Reports of Zuma heading to Russia for medical treatment are false - family

Former president Jacob Zuma has distanced himself from reports making the rounds on social media that he was heading to Russia for medical treatment next week.

“The Jacob Zuma Foundation and family wishes to distance itself from the person calling him/herself a spokesperson. We wish to state that it’s mischievous and disrespectful to South Africans,” said family spokesperson Edward Muziwoxolo Zuma, who is Zuma’s eldest son.

The family was responding to reports that the former president would be leaving to seek medical attention in Moscow on February 1 and returning to SA at the end of March.

The report, labelled as false by Zuma jnr, quoted a councillor, Ally Mosina, who had apparently been appointed the "new spokesperson for the Jacob Zuma Foundation".

In the report, Mosina dismissed the insinuation that Zuma was avoiding appearing before the Zondo commission into state capture after the Constitutional Court ruling that compelled him to do so.

“The former president, as the father of radical economic transformation, has nothing to hide. However, his health comes first - especially now at his age,” said Mosina.

The report further states that, “We are awaiting response and the reaction of the commission. However, the political commentator Prof Somadoda Fikeni has indicated that the commission has no legal bearing on Zuma's health.”

Zuma jnr said the report was false and pleaded with South Africans to be patient. “South Africans will be officially informed by the relevant people dealing with the matter involving the former president.”

On Thursday, the ConCourt ordered that the former president must abide by a summons to appear before the state capture commission to give evidence on allegations of state capture.

TimesLIVE reported that a unanimous decision was made that should Zuma not appear on February 15 as per his summons, he would be in breach of the Commissions Act and an order made by the apex court.

The court further declared that Zuma does not have the right to remain silent before the commission, but witnesses do have the privilege against self-incrimination.

The state capture inquiry heard during the testimony of the unidentified witness that the government, through SSA “Operation Lock”, spent R200,000 on De Kock every month after his release.

The expenditure included a state-sponsored safe house for the assassin and a R40,000 monthly “salary”.

I am sure there is a perfectly innocent explanation as to why a man that the ANC wanted in prison is now getting a nice cushy salary from the ANC.

Only reason why the ANC would do this is because he has information that criminally implicates ANC leadership.

It may not be innocent but I can assure you it's a perfectly reasonable explanation.

The EFF already gave an explanation, and a recommendation,

The EFF said De Kock had amassed benefits from the state to the tune of R200,000 a month “to sustain his blood-stained livelihood”.

“There is no moral or political justification for placing an individual who led the burning, torture and murder of black anti-apartheid activists in one of the most infamous sites of injustice known as Vlakplaas, on the payroll of the state,” the EFF said.

They added that De Kock’s continued salary from government was “a confirmation that the organisation [ANC] identifies itself with the regime of terror and continues to reward its apartheid darlings at the expense of the lives and memory of African people”.

The party said the ANC’s “so-called liberation movement” now “spits on the graves of the families” of those slain in Boipatong, and honours former president FW de Klerk by giving him “presidential benefits and inviting him to a democratic Parliament”.

In the EFF’s eyes, the evidence was incontrovertible that the ANC was a “compromised ruling party”.

“The ANC’s commitment to self-hate and anti-blackness is further confirmed in the welfare it provides to one of apartheid’s most brutal servants.”

The party has called for “a comprehensive report” by the SSA on the money paid to De Kock “and many others for the clandestine activities he clearly performed in collaboration with the ruling party”.

The EFF said all transactions made to De Kock and other “apartheid servants” should be made available for public scrutiny, and those who authorised the transactions reimburse them.

I presume De Kock was maybe a fall guy ... so they paying him to keep quiet.

And lol.. 200k a month is a lot.. but the ANC steal BILLIONS...

Chief Zulu (as opposed to the rapper, Big Zulu) says he's ready to go to jail rather than cooperate with the commission. Also likens commission to apartheid and will defy commission like he did apartheid.

Time for jail...clear contempt of court.

He has decided it time to go rogue, throw him in jail and let's see how fast he changes his mind.
In this case, I really think he is being a whiny baby and trying to see if there is some public support. I am fairly certain there will be hardly any apart from his own family and few rent-a-crowd.

I really doubt if he has guts to defy a constitutional court ruling.

Probably believes he has the support to cause instability if thrown in jail. No doubt his army of Varyses in the SSA are still feeding his paranoia like some real life mad King Aerys.

Deputy Chief Justice Zondo in dismissing the application to recuse himself was again frugal and expedient with the truth in how he contextualized and defined the nature of the personal relationship we had. Perhaps by western culture’s standard of defining kinship he may be correct if the yardstick is of family events attended or family invitations issued.

If this suppressed fury fails to find an outlet, it turns into a vacuum and devastates the oppressed creatures themselves. In order to free themselves they even massacre each other. The different tribes fight between themselves since they cannot face the real enemy- and you can count on the colonial policy to keep up their rivalries

Ah yes, Jacob G Zuma, the world's most oppressed human being. You see, you need a big brain like his to know that black people need to have unity at a time like this and focus on the real enemy.

Good move by Zuma. I guess the next step is to issue an arrest warrant; then bail hearing; then contempt of court trial in a few months time and finally conviction and sentencing on a charge of contempt of court. All this at the Constitutional Court.
