I'm finally getting fibre at home soon and since it's going to be 200Mbps up and down, I want to start hosting servers for a few games. I'm a complete noob with this.

Does static IP's cost more and is there any reasons a static IP would be a bad idea?

Most ISP's wont give you a static IP on a home use product.
Its normally only business fibre that does that.

You can work around it with DDNS etc though.

Yeah - most wont but there are a few that will give you one for an additional fee >> https://www.axxess.co.za/static-ip is one i found
I used that service from Axxess back in the day, it wasnt so much a static IP as it was a VPN tunnel to where they could provide you with a static.
Neotel provides a /28 with their fibre but its more expensive than normal domestic connections.

Aaah ok, thanks for the clarification. I think the OP has some homework to do to see which ISP can match his requirement 100%

Well, it also depends on the FNO's architecture. For example, TT Connect gives you a static IP as default. (the don't tell you that, but that's just how their network works), or at least they used to.

Use dynamic DNS.

I use namecheap for my domains, and theirs work well :

^ What he said, just use a dynamic dns service. Telkom even gives that option in their portal for example.

Its also crap to host gaming servers at home. Then someone wants to play but the server is off, or the server is slow, or there is lag, or if its an FPS there is an unfair disadvantage, or, you get the point by now.
