Hi there everybody,

I just want to find out since the ICASA regulations came out and to my knowledge even the Spermcount helpdesk nowadays knows about the 30 day installation cap.

What ever happenned to the dynamic IP issue ?? I read on the regulations that all ADSL account should have a static IP of some sorts, did Spermy throw this thing now into the laps of the ISP's or will we see this happening anytime soon ?

I am wondering about this because one of my clients has an ADSL uncapped express account but the IP still gets reset every 24 hours, I want them to host their own mail and web servers as I have developed a Web Aplication for their stock controll system which enables the reps on the road to connect via wireless and access the server to check if the product is availible and the quantity's using their web browser for customers while on their site, also planning on making it a booking system so that stock will be kept aside for orders from reps in the field.

I know I can still do this with DynDNS but it is a real hassle to monitor this.

Reason Session timed out. Telkom enforces disconnection every 24 hours after your authentication. There is currently no way around this. It is part of the service.

Yea Well this is my account from IS above it clearly states Telkom enforces this -- uncapped express account.

Enforced by Telkom. The draft ADSL regs released a while back do away with it. ICASA is yet to enforce it though.

As far as I can see static IPs arent even mentioned in the ADSL Regs. http://mydrive.co.za/uploads/icasa_adsl_regulations.pdf

Dynamic IPs are pretty much the norm wherever I've been (as far as basic ADSL is concerned).

Bwana,

Look at point 7.

7. 24 Hour ADSL service Reset

7.1 Telkom, SNO and ISPs shall not periodically reset the ADSL service.

7.2 Any reset required for the (NOTE THIS) service maintenance shall be done with a prior notification of at least seven (7) days to the subscribers and by notification on the website.

Now in essence this turns a dynamic service into a static service. If you know anything about DHCP or even their techies setting up the DHCP service then an IP is or can be assigned dynamically to a certain MAC of each ADSL router therefore a "static" IP and the same IP will be assigned to that MAC when it logs back on in case of a power failure or user reset etc.

But according to me the above states that no ISP, SNO nor Telkom is supposed to do this... finito... none of them !! They can't even put the blame on each other POINT.
