Anybody else ever excperienced static crackling noises during a cell phone call? It happened to me quite a number of times, but I don't know how it is possible when the signal is digital? Isn't static interference which results in the crackling noise only restricted to analog signals?

There is still analog circuitry on the front end of a cellphone between the microphone and speaker and the GSM module itself, as well as the power supply to this section of the circuit. Problems in these areas can result in noise similar to what I am experiancing currently on my landline at home, but that's another story.....

Plenty of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion takes place before the sound of the person speaking reaches your ears. This is one source of errors. The sound is analog ANYway
