Woo. Who knew we were running Steam 2?

A new Steam client has been released, updating the integrated Steam store and the Games list. The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.

These changes are part of a larger set of features (collectively known as Steam 3) which will be introduced over the course of the coming months. Today's release allows Steam to offer a larger and more varied collection of games to our customers, and introduces a-la-carte purchases.

We hope everyone enjoys the changes.

BTW, my steam is updating as we speak (nice pretty new dialog), and my machine is going *hurk* *hurk* *hurk*. It's using 99% CPU while it's updating. Woohoo.

Steam chows resources like its going out of fashion.. mine updated earlier as well and even Winamp hiccupped once or so.. hopefully the Steam3 code is better than the previous stuff, there have been endless complaints, especially with login problems..

Well, the new interface is nice.

Discovered an annoying bug with the backup game function:

If you choose to dump your backup into a different folder, you browse for your folder, if you click the Create Folder button and type your folder name, and hit enter - the 'browse' dialog below the window actually has focus, so when you hit enter to accept the name, it selects a different folder instead, which you don't really notice because the 'Create folder' dialog is on top.

So when you use your mouse to click OK instead, it creates the folder at some other location.

Really annoying!

when you guys bought the game, did it also take you 4 hours to update css? I've been sitting here for over an hour now and 4 still to go...

Took me about an hour to get CSS when it came out with my iBurst.

Gosh, what a difference hey! New interface is much simpler, not clumsy like the old one. Less buggy too.

still updating... running for 3 hours now... 3 more to go.

Hi Tim182,

the first update usually takes a while to put it politely. I generally just leave it overnight doing the update and play the following day.

I installed a mod for HL2 called Gary's mod - interesting thing.
Anybody else tried it?

I have seen many screenshots of the mod and quite a few people on the steam powered forum rave about it. To be honest, since I have gotten BF2 I have not touched HL2 or any other game. :D

I don't think Valve will actually give enough of a **** about our little ****ed up country to host here.

The number of Steam users here in my opinion wouldn't warrent a local server.

I think you are mistaken....

I'm sure SA would have as many or more clients as a mid-sized US State.

The problem is finding someone at Steam who is in a position to negotiate setting up a Steam proxy here. We'll need to get an ISP to invest a lot of effort into that.... Up for it? ANYONE?!

Steam/Valve must host locally, till they do they can forget about me being a client.

I was under the impression that Steam was using local SGS servers to update data for us. Regardless I dont have issues in updating using Steam even if i despise it.
