Hi there

How heavy on data is Steam? I'm on a limited wifi plan each month (12GB, which I generally use 10GB up quite easily in the month then use the rest for downloads).

Is it going to work for me, or should I not bother?

Thanks :)

That is 100% up to what games you want to play. Some games are 60GB and others are 1GB.

Depends how many games you buy etc...

Off the bat I'd you're going to need more than 12GB if you are going to be using it regularly.

Depends how many games you buy, but I find it very heavy on data.
In fact... I struggle to keep up with the steam downloads cos they keep eating all my daytime data.
(And the stupid scheduled download feature built into steam doesn't actually work properly).

60gb?? Example please. Biggest game I saw was 24gb. Thought that was crazy. Think I need new drive

GTA V is 60GB, Wolfenstein: The New Order is 60GB, Final Fantasy XIII is 60GB, Elder Scrolls Online is 80GB, most modern AAA titles are around 20GB and up.

It is a once off download? Once you've downloaded a game and start playing it... does it use much?

Only if you play MP. Most SP games barely use any data, except for cloud features like saves and achievements. Those will use the bare minimum amount of data. You can disable auto-updates per game if you want, so it won't easily eat into your bandwidth after the initial download.

Nope, some of them have major sized updates. And a good few have to re-download everything!
But you can control it. It's worse for me, cos there are three gamers in our family.
But for one person it is more bearable.

Ah that explains it. I can't afford the latest games. So I wait for the steam specials. Then the games are usually 2 years old already. Budget gaming

Quick question. Why don't Telkom Uncapped users get access to the R50 doGaming addon, where we can download as much steam games as we want?

I understand we are on uncapped already, but if we dowload from steam during the day it affects our AUP bar and we get throttled.

ALL uncapped ISPs should host their own steam servers. Would save them plenty!
