Hey everyone,

I'm sad to say so but I have not bought a game for the past four years of my life... I have always copied games because it was the easier thing to do.

Well then I started to feel guilty so I decided to buy games from now on like I always did in high school. The problem is I'm four years behind with all the steam and copy right protection issues since free games are cracked and easy to use.

Now I bought Dawn of War 2, installed it, and then Steam began downloading a huge update. I tried to pause it but it won't. I'm using Vodacom 3G so I cannot afford to download the bloody update!

Whenever I start the game it downloads again. Changing the option to turn off patch downloads does not work, it just starts again.

Well I'm furious at the moment, so would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to stop Steam from downloading all patches forever.

I cannot believe they "force" you to download the update, it is pretty lame in my opinion.

Thanks!

that's steam for you, maybe you can ask someone to send you the patches in a data storing device.or why not just download the crack for the game?.you still have the original so you don't have to feel guilty.right?

Hey, I thought of that but I don't think you get cracks like in the old days for Steam games, the illegal Steam games that I played a while ago had their own installer and everything. Will Google it a bit and see

Steam won't let you play online with an out of date version. Once it start downloading one thats it. Its simply not designed for SA pricing.

Best bet is to find a mate with ADSL, jam all the updates & then switch it off. Or find someone with the files you need & just copy them to your steamapps folder.

You can try installing a firewall & blocking port 27030. Not sure whether it'll let you into the game then though.

Hey, I have tried blocking the download, the game won't start without the download.

Must say this is the saddest thing I have seen in a while how are we in SA supposed to play games without cheap DSL connections?

Oh well I'm off to university going to download the cracked illegal game from the local DC server. No way how I'm going to pay an extra R250 for an update.

Yes once the download starts you can't play the game.

This is why I use steam BTW I don't have to fsuk around with patches and updates.

yep need copy of the full updated game, you cant play steam games without it being updated.

Likewise.

A person really shouldn't be using Steam unless they have uncapped.
