Steam games - hl2.exe has encountered an error

Hi Guys

Am having problems starting my steam games (HL2: episode 1,DOD:S, CS:S)

get the following:

hl2.exe has encountered a problem and will close.

Any suggestions

All I can think are the obvious,

make sure you've got the latest drivers for your graphics card and other hardware. Otherwise it would be advisable to check the steam support page
