Hey Guys -

I've been searching and reading the forum on the steam topic and couldn't find anything. My question is - is there a local site where we can download the game images or whatever you call them. I want to buy the the holiday collection for $50 - but it's gonna cost me a fortune to download all the games.

Any advise would be apreciated!

ps. I've been lurking for a year on this forum! Awesome forum!

Well you best bet you be to get these two seperately:-

Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition

Half-Life 2: Episode One

Then the only thing you would have to download are the updates.

They do have Half Life 2-Holiday Collection, looks like it's coming soon.

:L:

If a friend have already donwloaded the games - can i just copy the files and activate on my account after i bought it?

Nope I tried that before...doesn't work.

Unless someone has an alternative way?

ah thanks Fivelza

damn that sux. I wanted to join some mates for some online CS.

thanks again guys.

Depends if your friend has an original bought copy and installed with all the updates, then you can install steam and get him to make backups of his games and you can install those and when you say install, it then asks for a cd key ;)

Or on steam you can activate a product with the cd key and then it'll say you have those games on your account and then you do the whole backup games and then install on your pc but only the games that on associated with your cd key will work

You can simply copy the .gcf files for the game(s) in question in to your SteamApps folder. They will appear in your games list, but you will not be able to play them until you purchase.

I got a copy of hl1 source from a friend in this way. He had bought the HL2 GOTY edition which included hl1 source. I copied his (fully up to date) .gcf into my SteamApps folder, and (re)started Steam. It appeared in my game list, but greyed out. Right clicked it, and used the "Purchase" link (can't remember exactly how it was worded), paid for it, and then I could play it.

I'm not sure if this will work for other steam based games.

What i did was copy my friends steam folder. Delete clientregistry.blob and buy the cd keys for the games i wanted. Its cheaper then buying the game itself. Created my account and off i went.

thanks for all the help guys - What i a mission to get everybody's versions up to date - even though we all did the same updates - some version were still out. should have stuck to hamachi and generals:ZH
