Steam issues

Has anyone been experincing serious slowness downloading through valve's steam ?
It's pathetically slow and I'm not even capped. Netmeter shows my line maxing out while browsing international sites and downloading game demos/vidz etc.

Is it because steam runs on a different port than http, ftp ? and telkom is shaping the bajeeesus outa the ports steam is running on ? Is telkom treating steam as a p2p ? Would running through the steps on www.portforwarding.com make any differences ?

Well... Steam's always been slow for me, so didn't notice anything in particular. Preload of Dod:S went through quite well.

Anybody know if there will be local DoD:S servers available on the 26th of Sept? I did my preloading of DoD:S and just wait for the game to be officially out...

Because of steam I no longer play Half-Life2, or CS or DoD ... I really used to enjoy DoD, but I refuse to use anything related to the STEAM system.
