I'm having the same problem, whois.net was affected too, but it's online now. What I have noticed is that in the firewall log I'm getting a lot of refused connections from steam, "no existing session", even if firewall is disabled I can not access steam. However using tor allows accessing the sites, so I'm thinking TTL is being exceeded or telkom has a faulty router somewhere.

I had a similar problem about a week ago with another site, i was checking the intrusion logs and somebody was scanning with a spoofed address, same address as the website, this triggers the IDS and it blocks the site. So it could be that somebody is scanning telkom routers with steamcommunity.com IP and this is causing some router on the path to block the IP. I don't think there is anything we can do on our side, and I doubt telkom will even investigate with such a small number of us affected.

Fingers crossed the script-kiddie that is doing this give up and telkom removes the IP from blocked list. Well that's my theory...

Haven't had any problems with steam on mweb.
Bought Company of Heroes collection on Saturday, didn't take long at all to come down (~9.5gb)

I have the same issue. Really annoying since I would like to buy ArmA 2 on it so I can play the Day Z mod

Please use http://dsl-cache.saix.net:8080 as your proxy server for now as a work-around.

For users in Gauteng, a different workaround was implemented by SAIX this morning (and it works for me at home now, whereas last night it didn't). SAIX needed a user to log a fault to investigate and resolve the problem correctly (apparently it looks like the network hosting the steam store is IP filtering the SAIX caches, so will most likely require troubleshooting between the two networks). Another user has logged a ticket with TelkomInternet, I will be following it up tomorrow.

In future, please report errors like this to the help desk, for example by sending a mail to support at telkomsa dot net. If you have not had a response within one business day, PM me the ticket number and I will try (if I have time, am not stuck in meetings in venues without WiFi etc.) and follow up.

I logged the fault on Tuesday, it's really difficult to report something like this, "is your modem switched on?". Anyway it started working for me yesterday. Got a call from telkom telling me that one of saix routers was being filtered by the steam network and that they have contacted the appropriate admins.

There was also an issue with Diablo III this week, it turns out it's telkom/siax fault as well, download is corrupted or unable to complete, switching to any other provider fixes the problem. Here is a thread with many SA users moaning.

I can confirm this is still an issue?
Has anything been done to resolve this? Maybe it's time to leave Telkom as my ISP.

The proxy bypass does work. But it a temporary fix.

Friend of mine has the same problem and I was wondering what the issue is. Everything has been pointing to the ISP so far which is Telkom.

I'm with Mweb and have no steam problems what so ever.

My steam is also fooked its up and down. I am on Telkom Internet aswell.

Tried reporting it but to try and make one of them understand that there is nothing wrong with my line is impossble

I'm also having problems, although mine is bit different than described by OP.

Mine keeps going offline and online every few minutes, very annoying.

Well, the proxy bypass doesn't give me the 504 error but i still can't view the store. Steam just stays blank.
FU telkom!
