I have a steam account but I lost my copy of steam so I'm thinking of downloading it and counter strike source from scratch, any idea how much of my cap that would take up in total? Just steam and css

steam is small. like 2mb download, and then it will update, which is at most about 50mb. then CS:source well, im guessing about 2-4gig?

My CS:S is 5508mb at the moment. With a 2.5mb waiting to be downloaded :p

Steam is about 2mb and then updates. Budget about 5.6 gig to be safe.

Css will be about 2.5 Gb. the updated files replace the old game files. be sure to install from a disc first if you have any, saves you a lot of cap. and when your updates are done...MAKE A COPY OF THAT!! :P

EDIT: Nevermind make that about 3Gb's...they just released another update.

TF2 is 3GB for virgin install - nearly bought it when they had that crazy special a few weeks back but did not want to wait a week to download on my 384

why dont u just grab a copy from someone? All you need is the files in his Steamapps folder or you can just grab the whole steam folder and then u wont have to reinstall stream

Ah, hmmm, and is CS 1.6 still played?

I'd say it's not really about counterstrike as such but rather the Source Engine itself. Valve just released "Alien Swarm" using their latest version of the Source Engine for free and there's a heap of other games using the same engine on Steam (hence why CS is probably also updated).

That is definitely not right. I copied about 5gb of TF2 files from a friend & it still wants to download another 3.5gig on top of that. On a 384 line 3gb takes 22 hours.

That sounds about right. All the updates are nearly bigger than the game on release.
Thats valve for you, making a game better over time.
