Must be the discounts, I know a lot of games are selling for cheap.

It isn't only Steam being attacked. Almost all Steam nodes are being targeted, and some AWS nodes are being targeted. So, Riot and Epic is also attacked. The PS Network also reported some downtime. Other services on AWS would be impacted too. I have two services that are currently undergoing mitigation.

Some think it is the same botnet as the one that hit Steam last year. I don't think it is Aisuru, but it could be.

Never stopped working for me using Cape Town servers. that said, I am running it on Linux, so its a slightly different codebase.

This has nothing to do with running Linux. The Cape Town node is already recovered. It has been attacked twice today. The node in Johannesburg is still under strain.

Yeah I see Downdetector shows a slight spike in reports around 08:00 this morning.

Tuesday is steam maintenance day , always go down on Tuesdays

The DDOS peaked at 29.69 terabits per second (Tbsp) and previous one last month was around 11 (Tbps) so this was certainly classed as a massive attack from a bot net, found this info on the internet after googling why steam was down.
