Steers vs Burger King

Re: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...urger-King?p=17687350&viewfull=1#post17687350

After speaking to Steers rep who investigated, etc... They said the onset (1 hour) was too quick for it to have been Steers as the source. This link would seem to support that position.

So it was possibly the chicken in the fridge that I ate 30 hours prior that could have been the cause of me becoming violently ill.

Chicken would have been 6 hours.

Staphylococcal food poisoning, 1-6 hours, from produce where the cold chain has been broken.

OK, so you are saying their health expert was probably tuning their franchise manager a bunch of horse radish to feed me?

Franchise manager said they did an unannounced inspection and all was found to be in order.

edit: Damn son, these were exactly my symptoms! Time it took to hit me was 1 hour and then 48 hours for me to feel 95% normal again.

Symptoms: Sudden onset of severe nausea and vomiting. Abdominal cramps. Diarrhea and fever may be present.

Food Sources: Unrefrigerated or improperly refrigerated meats, potato and egg salads, cream pastries

Very difficult to say without a blood test. If the branch is having issues with their walk in coldroom, the FM would have picked it up when they did their inspection. Also if their patties become contaminated due to holding at incorrect temperatures for too long, one would expect more complaints (even 1 more would confirm it for me). Patties come 96 in a box so the potential for more cases is quite high.

Anyway, no permanent damage so chalk it down to a bad experience and careful with those leftover chicken fillets...

Fair enough, so they would never lie about receiving other complaints? For their health & safety expert to say my symptoms hit me too quickly for it to be possible, that's not true though.

Oh the FM also said that the health guy said it's like you ingest the bug, and it sits there, waiting for something else to trigger it...

Yeah, will you can see from the list, sometimes it takes days before one starts exhibiting symptoms. 1-7 days depending on the bug, but Staphylococcal is quick. You ingest it at lunchtime you won't be eating dinner, quick.

Don't think they intentionally lied, just think they suspect your chicken could be the culprit. :)

I'll say again, never easy to prove conclusively without blood work.

I didn't mention the chicken as it was 30 hours before, lol. I didn't think it was relevant but I suppose potentially it could have been the cause.

Chicken fillets? Chicken is tricky. If it's even just a little under cooked it can make you ill. Also you can't be reheating it all that often. IN fact not at all. So you can cook it and refrigerate leftovers but if you reheat those leftovers the next day, you can't stick those leftovers back in the fridge again to reheat a third time.

Question, if you eat a chicken fillet, and you see red flesh,
Does that mean it's undercooked? As I think that's a warning sign at steers, whenever they prepare your order too quickly....

No. That means it's beef, not chicken. The flesh of a chicken fillet is more of a dull yellow colour. Not so easy to spot undercooked chicken fillets. White on the outside but slightly yellowish on the inside.

From what I understand, garage branches don't cook their burgers from scratch unlike the proper bk stores. They are warmed up in the microwave.

Where do people hear this ***?

And why do they believe it?

I last ate Steers two years ago to the month (I stopped eating all take aways and "family" restaurant food two years ago this month except Burger King). Since I only eat Burger King burgers now, is Steers still worth it?

I'm fairly sure we didn't reheat the chicken more than once, but then again it was sitting in fridge for maybe 4 days after being cooked originally.

Lessons learnt, thanks sand_man!

4 days?! Mmmmmmm, that's pretty much pushing it to its limit!! Now I'm pretty sure it was the chicken that made you ill!!
