Steers vs Burger King

The numbers don't lie Steers!

Burger King: Big King Medium Meal (R36,90) + Big King Burger (R20,90) = R57,80
Steers: Original King Steer Combo = R64,90

Been saying this for a long time. Steers is expensive and that is the reason I take my money elsewhere. The WW special use to be worth it and now the R30 burger chips and shake is still good, but the rest.... no thanks.

I Agree... Nevermind the price of Steers burgers, even their chips are expensive compared to Burger King...

Steers Medium Chips: R17
Burger King Medium Chips + Unlimited Drinks: R16

Have you had BK fries? their medium is the equivalent of a steers small. I prefer steers fries

But for how long will Burger King remain well priced?

How should I know? :p
All i'm saying is at this moment after checking Steers' prices carefully, I will rather head to BK and get a lot more for my money...

I love bacon too but geez, it's just too expensive for what you get. I might as well go to Spur...

Can't comment on the Burger King Burger but the King Steers contains 2 x 100gram patties, 2 slices of cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, mayo, bbq and mustard with a net weight of roughly 317grams. It also includes a medium chips with a net cooked mass of around 190grams.

Now compare that to BK large chips, which according to their nutritional information is also 190grams (their medium fries is 153grams). I don't see the Big King burger but the BK Quad stacker is their heaviest burger at 240grams...

So, pound for pound they not significantly cheaper if at all, bottomless coldrink aside.

Sandman, that's burger you posted is priced well and all - but why is the Original King Steer Combo more than double the price of that?

I understand it's a little bigger, but R65?
Why exactly am I expected to pay R35 extra for only a extra patty and a buddy coke?

The every day awesome meal or national promo is designed to drive feet and sells for well below our usual profit margins.

Minus one tomato slice the burgers are practically the same: 2 Patties, 2 slices of cheese, Pickles, Lettuce and a Bun.
(let's keep the stupid sauces out of the maths for now)

The point is at Burger King, you get 2 of 'em - that's 4 x Patties and 4 slices of cheese. You have to agree this does not look good for the steers offer no matter which way you try to slice it. "Strike 1!"

Now not only do you get two burgers at BK, but it's R7 cheaper too. "Strike 2!"

And to add insult to injury, at Burger King you can have as much coldrink as you want. "Strike 3, you're out!"

My bad, didn't realize there were 2 burgers in the BK offer.

That does seem like very good value yeah.

EDIT: That a standard menu combo or an opening promotion?

Standard meal man.

Heck, you could even have 2 x "Extra Long Chili Cheese" Burgers + Medium Chips + Bottomless Drinks and get 6x Patties... guess what? Still cheaper than a King Steer Combo. :p

Guys you can either choose cheap taste or good taste. I will choose Steers over mcds any day.

It just tastes better.

Oooooooooooh! that picture of the extra long Chilli Cheese.........

and the Mountain Dew............

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Aaaaaaargh - my wife just told me we're going on a 10 day diet real soon now - aaaaaargggggghhhhhhh

Are you suggesting Steers taste better because their prices are steep?

Let's compare Spur then as they are REALLY steep with their burger prices - cheapest Burger starts at R52,95!! (Patty, tomato, lettuce, onion)
On monday's you get a free burger - so you can basically have a Bacon + Cheese and a Cheese + Mushroom Cheddamelt burger + Chips + Spur Onion Rings.

I'd rather have those two burgers than 1 steers burger...

2 king Steer Original burgers R80 (no fries, no drinks) and large fries R21. Total R101 for a burger each and shared "large" chips- not so large.
I thought that was damn expensive.

The more I think about it the madder I get. I just paid R40 for a hamburger (well ok two patties) and shared a miserly portion of Large Fries. And my R40 hamburger isn't even the highest priced burger and its haalal.
So if Most steers are non haalal then they are nowhere near Cape town or in the close suburbs for sure.
Blouberg, Parklands and Table view might as well be in Namibia for all I care.

Spur has gone meh. Their Buns are staleish and while the burger is nothing to email home about the basting sauce is ok (and you can buy it in the supermarkets) . The chips and the onion rings are soggy and greasy. Sometimes the chips are fryer fresh but usually by the time I get them they are like limp noodles, and the coating just falls off the onion rings,. A couple of times I have sent spur burgers back for cooking as they were raw in the middle. But now my kids have got slightly older it's no longer cool for them to go to spur (for whatever reason) and I am eternally grateful for that.

I was looking through old receipts spanning 7 years and the same meal 7 years ago costs almost R200 more today.

No. I'm saying they are more expensive because they taste better.

Have you tried Burger King in South Africa yet Chevron? others are saying the taste/quality is comparable to Steers and definitely better than McDonalds.
