Stellenbosch Disconnect issues?

Jinxed it..... back down again. Although my router/modem does seem to be synch'ing faster than normally. I'm going to get to work on a Voodoo Doll. Someone find me a lock of Ivy's hair.

I was so glad I finally got connected, and was posting about it here. But my connection got interrupted whilst posting, and my connection is down again. My problem is definitely not sorted out yet, as I'm posting this with my phone.

Same here... was connected from 11h00 but went down again at 12h20. No stability at all.
However, when I logged in with the telkom guest account, I was authenticated immediately. So I called WebAfrica and whilst in the queue, Darth Vader's voice said "we are currently experiencing connectivity problems - Telkom are attending....."

Ditto. Our problem is definitely the same. Online for now.

Thanks to all you guys, I think I would have gone insane without knowing others are having the same problem.

This doesn't help matters:

Yes, this forum is unofficially an Internet Anonymous Support group. ;)

When you post via your cellphone, what software do you use? I'm just curious. What phone do you have?

Since I use GPRS on the cell it is extreeemely slow. To browse general websites it goes a bit quicker when I use Opera Mini (because it uses a proxy server) but I don't post messages via Opera Mini because you have to login and I'll never do that if I know I'm going through a proxy server, it's a security risk.
I therefore post messages to the forum using the browser software that came with my Nokia 6670, NetFront. Very sluggish 'n bloated.

I never had to use my phone's internet before, but because of "recent events", I got round to checking it out. I'm using a Nokia 6680, with the "pc suite" software that came with. I use the "vodacom south africa" option, and it worked without any setup.

I have Nokia PC Suite version 6.84.10.3 installed on my laptop. I use it to synchronise my Microsoft Outlook Calendar and Contacts with my cellphone, using bluetooth. But I can't find any PC Suite software on the phone itself that says "Vodacom south africa" anywhere.
How do you navigate to it on the phone?

In Nokia PC Suite on the laptop, I don't see any software that you can use to surf the net on the phone, I only have a "Connect to the internet" option there that allows you to browse the internet via your computer using bluetooth, not browse the net on the phone.

I Think Zefram is referring to Internet on PC via bluetooth/USB cable. Been using my Nokia E50 & PC Suite, just select the settings under "Connect to Internet". Had trouble with MTN simcard & another E50 though, so the standard settings for SA may only work for Vodacom users... dunno. Off-topic, but what speeds are we suppose to get with EDGE? My phone-modem connects at something like 480kbps, although speeds tests showed 50-88kbps... Very slow and annoying for browsing, I thought Vodacom's network would at least support the full EDGE Speed.

Update: Yes I'm surfing on the computer via the phone. The internet on the phone just worked, so no idea how to set that up. Maybe try the latest firmware.

I use 6.84.10.4.

I did a "Connect to the Internet" - Settings - Choose modem - "VodaCom South Africa"

Maybe it's a new setting in the 0.0.0.1 difference between our versions :-)

My line is still up/down/up/down/down/down/up/down/dead all fscking day. I need something to burn / torture.

Same here up/down/up and then mostly down. :)

When I connect the phone to the laptop via Bluetooth and choose "Connect to the Internet" in the Nokia PC Suite, then it says "modem not found".
I then connected the phone with a USB cable to the laptop and tried again, then it saw the phone as a USB modem and connected me at 480Kbps. I selected "VodaCom South Africa".

However, I can't load any websites, except http://www.vodacom4me.co.za
It simply says 'server not found' for any other website.
Am I missing something? Must I be subscribed to some specific service at Vodacom to use this? (Excuse all the stupid questions, I've never had to use these things before.)

It would be great if I could connect the phone to the laptop via bluetooth and surf the internet that way, especially since I sometimes leave town and just quickly want to browse the odd site and check some emails. I currently do this ON the phone but it is a huge hassle... because my big thumbs and small keypad ain't working in unison. :)

haha, no that's fine. Unfortunately I don't know how to set it up. Like I said, mine just worked. I use a usb cable, but in theory it should work fine through bluetooth, but I lent my dongle to my sister, so I haven't tried that yet.

I would recommend you try the "Vodacom Broadband" section in this forum, or go to a vodacom shop.

Oh yes, and I'm using pay as you go.

IS account with Openweb also up/down/up/down the whole time.
SAIX account works fine.

Stellenbosch

Same problems in Gordons Bay
All accounts up/down/up/down Reported problem with Telkom

dsl reset on my pc now i cant reconnect, however its connected fine on my gfs pc and the internet is working. (im guessing if she disconnects she wont be able to reconnect either)

seems to get such at verifying username and password then just times out.

i love telkom

greywolve that sounds like a different kind of error. The disconnect of ~ 5 Nov - 7 Nov didn't even get to the authentication part.

Still, it's probably telkom's fault.

Sorry about the thread resurrection but I have been getting this error daily for the last few months.

It is very irritating to drop when you are gaming.

Anybody have a solution to the problem?
