Got a version 1.52 firmware PSP, need to downgrade it to 1.50. I understand that you need to upgrade it to version 2.0 first, and then downgrade. Question is: is there a step by step procedure about the whole process? Yeah I'm a PSP noob (actually had it for over a year now, but didn't wanna downgrade before) :o

My concern is that I don't want the thing to be rendered useless, so I'm looking for the safest possible method. Thanks guys.

Edit: The only 2.0 firmware update that I can find on psp-hacks is either Japan or US - which version do you choose?

1) Update to 2.0 (easiest way is to find a umd with the update on it)
2) Visit psp-hacks.com and download the AIO package http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1044
The 2.0-1.5 downgraders are very safe nowdays.

Contact me on MSN and i'll talk you through if need be :)

I'm currently downloading the 1.5 and 2.0 eboot from psp-hacks. Got the following procedure from them and need to know whether it is correct when upgrading to 2.0:

1. Download the 2.0 eboot file.
2. Plug in PSP via a USB cable.
3. Create a folder called "UPDATE" in the "GAME" folder on the PSP
and make sure they are all in caps. This is where the eboot will be
going.
4. Drag the 2.0 eboot into the "UPDATE" folder on the PSP.
5. Now unplug the PSP from the PC and plug in the PSP charger.
6. Go to the memory stick under "GAME" on the PSP and should see the PSP 2.0 update. Select this update.
7. Now follow the on-screen instructions with the PSP charger in.
8. Once the update has finished, restart the PSP.
9. Now go to Settings > System Settings > System Information
10. Double check that the System Software is the 2.0 firmware.

Have a question with step 4: do you simply copy the zip that you downloaded into the UPDATE folder? Or do you extract the files and then copy them to the UPDATE folder?

I understand that these are probably really simple questions but I really don't want to end up with a brick, and never had a need to upgrade/downgrade my firmware before.

the file needs to be extracted. only the .PBP file is needed

Cool thanks for the help guys, got it sorted. The process is actually much easier than it looks.

Ok my son has finished harry potter, and i aint buying any more games for him rightnow.

I've not tampered with the psp as yet, but ready to if need be now.

I'm currently looking on the page...

How and what and where do i start? There loads of stuff here, can someone give me a quickie?

My psp 'system software version 2.60' - i assume thats my firmware version.

This must be the most noob of noob questions... but why downgrade?

Lol.....

I did read somewhere, a month or 2 ago, that you needed to downgrade if your firmware version was too high.

And secondly, i didn't mention anything about downgrading, now did I.

Basically to run homebrew apps such as DevHook. So that you can *cough* backup *cough* your games as an ISO file, and run the ISO from your memory stick via DevHook.
:D

Thing is DevHook works best on version 1.5 firmware, but it can simulate higher firmware versions.

I downloaded the tutorial as a PDF from here. I prefer it cos it has pictures demonstrating how things should look after each step. It looks more complicated than it actually is, it turns out to be fairly simple once you get around to doing it.

Say you accidentally deleted your backed up iso, and the original disk is damaged, is there a place you can get backed up backup games ?:D

Hehe, all the usual suspects should have what you are looking for.

Cool thing about this is you can also run ISO's from you PC via wifi and USB, so you don't need a huge memory stick either.

lol yeah all the usual suspects :D

rsachoc the memory sticks come in handy when you're travelling though, unless you have a laptop.

What version firmware must i/should i have?

I got 2.60
