Seems like Vox are charging Telkom the highest interconnect rates so think twice when phoning a Vox "Geographical Number" ie "010...." or "020....." (No different to the 087 range just a way of getting around the bad reputation of advertising an 087 number.......) My understanding is that they do this so they can pass a rebate back to their client...................the effect of this is that the "caller pays hectic rates" and the receiver gets some of it............"take from Peter to Pay Paul"...........one consumer wins while the other loses..........I would also guess this practice is to make up a diminishing margin/turnover they experience on VOIP calls and LCR............

Since all interconnection agreements are lodged with ICASA, it's possible to get hold of the actual rates charged by each player, under administrative law. That way, we'd be able to see who was being hypocritical when they complained about the mobile operators earlier this year - although, you may have noticed that Vox was on the mobiles' side, so they're not actually hypocritical, but rob the public honestly. If we had the actual rates, we'd also be able to tell how much margin Telkom is adding to all these calls - because they are also desperately trying to sustain their income in the face of competition from Neotel etc. There's currently a complaint submitted to the Competition Commission about this.
