Hey all,

A couple of questions..

1. I have seen numerous posts from people who suspect that their ADSL username and password have been compromised. Does this mean that one can use the same username and password to log in for two concurrent sessions?

I use 'Telkom Internet "powered" by ADSL' (Prolog Plus) - for which it is advertised: and I quote "One username and password per Telkom Internet powered by ADSL account to offer four concurrent sessions with bandwidth sharing".

In the good old days of 56k dial-up, some ISPs didn't seem to mind (or didn't seem to know) if you dialed up from two different locations, using the same uname and passwd - concurrently. Does the same still work for ADSL? - if it does, wouldn't a simple solution to this problem of theft be for Telkom to restrict each account to a single login session per account?

Thanks in advance for any input.

P.S. Question 2 is in the Technical Folder

With the Telkom Prolog account you can have two concurrent sessions using the same username and password, and with the Prolog Plus four concurrent sessions - meaning that four users having adsl can log in at the same time from different places but using the same username and password.

It is therefore also very impotant to ensure that your username and password are not given out to anyone.

Hi Ilan

As Doekvoet pointed out it is possible to have concurrent sessions. It has indeed happened to me where my username and password was compromised, and where my account was abused. Telkom’s security & abuse departments investigated this case and confirmed that there were concurrent sessions using my account. These sessions were in completely different cities! I hope Telkom employs a better method to change one’s own password, and even make it possible to stipulate from where the account may be used.

man , it should be like in da UK , u can only log on with a username and password on the phone line u ordered it for , ie. it checks what ur phone numer is ....and compares it with its record ...

i think this would be good if teleskom had such a thing..

cheers
