I can not complain about MTN's service as there is none !
I live about 50 km out of Nelspruit and have MTN as my SP with a 500 meg bundle bolted on.
now I can not use more than 500 meg because my connection SUCKS and battle to finish 300 meg in a month !!!!!
vodacom have installed a 3G tower and their speeds are super fast so I contacted MTN several times and asked them when to they suppose they will follow suite, afterall they claim to be the "better connection" I have been given reference numbers but no feed back............
could I have expected anything different?

problem is I am locked into a two year contract so I am stuck with this crappy speed.
MTN come to the party dudes and live up to your claim of being the "better connection"

in the time taken to type this I lost my connection.........but used to it by now

I agree 105%... I'm also past the point of being angry.... now the hopless-ness is settling in..... My N95 has been in for repair for almost 8 months now... and all they had to do, was flash the new firmware on it...

Can't believe you guys haven't done any screaming!!!! OMG!
I would've flipped my lid long time ago, especially with kwaggawerner's cell problem!

Seriously guys... stop complaining here (but update us with what is happening) and start complaining UP the MTN ladder... you'll get results the more you climb... just remember to complain "professionally" :D

Lets not even go there !!!!
My SE k800I has failed twice in the one year that I have had it. first time I was in midrand and had it repaired in under 4 hours.
second time I sent it in and waited for about a month. It took me to go to www.hellopeter.com and lodge a complaint for something to happen. do not think that filling in the "contact us" on mtn web page is going to do any good.
I think these guys don’t dive a  about its customers as long as you sign up.........
then there is the amazing discounts that pre-paid users have...... up to 95 % off !!!!
MTN should look after the people who are "subsidizing" the rest of the network

So, you live 50kms from nothing, in the direction of nothing??? :p

MTN is a business. They are not going to spend R20m putting up a cell there just so the 5 people in the village of IXimanatu can enjoy faster internet access!

Ok so let me just get this straight

1. You got the contract even before knowing what the speeds will be like
2. Since then Vodacom has installed a Tower there and now your sad cause you took out a MTN contract

Am I correct ?

btw: I can blow 3GB worth of data on GPRS alone in one month ;)

That's better?? +/- 3000 people!

and dont forget a very large paper mill and all the on site contractors and their employees so that bumps the figure up quite a bit more as well as all the locals living in other villages around the area.
all wanting some kind of data connection....
so yes its a little more than 5 people in the village of IXimanatu wanting to enjoy faster internet access.

1.) I knew exactaly what speeds MTN / Vodacom / CellC / Virgin offered and they were all the same...
the stability is one of the main issues, we have all these people needing access and the 2 (that I am aware of ) towers can not keep up, the connections are dropped and at times are non existent.
2.) the vodacom tower is recent addition. had the contract over a year. MTN has no plans (as far as I have heard*) to implement 3g

* asked the question in this forum a few months ago and the feed back was that there are no plans what so ever to upgrade in the near future. also phoned them and there are no plans so it is word of mouth too.

I hear what you're saying.

I think the problem is, like mentioned above it is a business. If more people within that area was using GPRS/Edge it would prob. Constitute an upgrade. My guess is that the amount of data being used per user in that area + Number of users doesn't make it financialy viable. Just my 2c though. Sounds harsh but that is what I think.

I agree that it is a business, it’s just a pity it’s not a competitive one.
It does not really make sense that Vodacom has spotted the "niche" and MTN not.
Honestly it does not really cost me more to buy a prepaid Vodacom card and buy my data bundle but it would be great if I could just stick to one SP to do the job.

Hey

It seems all the man was asking for is to have a reliable isp ...as i am sitting in exactly the same boat i agree fully- Mtn Sucks... i also have only gprs and it is unreliable , slow, it takes me several tries to get my email for instance- 2Mb worth of email i have to try and get at least 4 to 5 times cause the download just grinds to a halt. A simple 2 Mb computer update took me 45 minutes to get. And i live in Rothdene , meyerton,15 mins from vereeniging, not exactly a small town.Complaining doesnt help, i have thrown my toys around in the mtn shop- had fights with mtn on the phone- all to no avail.lucky thing is that i am the last year of my contract, i will never ever ever use them again for anything and i will warn as many people as i can about them too.... i hope everyone else does the same- see how a bit of customer care and good service could have prevented loads of bad reputation...

I wish u luck in dealing with them
Anti-mtn

I get totally p!ssed when I have to connect and disconnect 3 or 4 times before I can even surf. I am sick of waiting 5 minutes for a simple page to open. this page took over 2 minutes to open !!!!!!!!
then there is the random disconnects, I know its not my equipment as my wife has the same problem with her connection on her laptop and her own cell phone...... surprisingly enough when my connection is crappy so is my wife's... so the only common thing is MTN's equipment.

2.2 meg in 10 minutes is pathetically slow.
I agree with anti-mtn, I cant wait until my contract is up, i will not take one out again, prepaid customers have better deals any ways.
I hang my head in sorrow if i see how MTN's service had degraded over the years. I used to be very impressed with them, now they have ceased to stand out from the so called accepted norm.

in the time taken to type this my connection bombed out .... again

Hi There

Report them to ICASA - the following person should be able to assist you.'[email protected]'. I Have had enough, and i think we dont complain enough, resulting in us being taken for a ride.

Anti-MTN

Buy a Vodacom sim-card and go pay-as-you-go. I think the prices are comparable to contract bundles.

2.2 meg in 10 mins? LOL i remember when i had the same prob with MTN, and that was in KEMPTON PARK!

Just get urself a Vodacom SIM, and stop wasting your time and money on MTN. =)

Well this week end I am making a trip into town and will buy a vodacom starter pack, put my mtn sim in my old SE T630 and sit back and enjoy vodacoms 3G on my k800I. if they are willing to take the step to giving me a better service I will rather spend my hard earned money on them and will assist any one who wants to follow this route. I took my laptop to town and did some downloads using up my left over 200 meg at 3 g speeds (and stability)
