Stop all e-tolls: Outa

After 6 months, i still haven't paid a cent. E-Tag free and proud of it.

Outa supports Vadi’s views that other funding models, like a regional fuel levy, a provincial tax or shadow tolling are more efficient ways to pay for road upgrades.

I know next to nothing about shadow tolling, other than a confusing Wikipedia article which states the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_toll

On more recent UK schemes shadow toll payments reduce as the number of vehicles increase to encourage availability of the road rather than the number of vehicles carried.

and then goes on to suggest that shadow tolling can be expensive, which begs the question: why would OUTA support shadow tolling?

IMO shadow tolling will just add to the corruption already prevalent in all government dealings.

If they cannot even get fully measurable sales & tolling figures correct, how the hell are they going to estimate accurate usage figures?

This thing should just die already, still not paying.

The damage has already been done regardless if e-tolling remains or is removed.
Producers and retailers have already added on the extra costs of transportation into their pricing models and there is no ways they'll reduce them if e-tolling is removed.
In fact if an alternative funding mechanism such as a provincial fuel levy is introduced we can expect some more price hikes for food and goods.
It's a ratchet mechanism.

I support a ring fenced fuel levy.
Everyone who uses transport will pay - not this attempt to rape the middle class.
I'll gladly increase my domestic worker's salary to compensate for her higher transport costs.
No one should be excluded from the privilege of contributing towards the economy regardless of their financial situation.

Coming soon: Government bailout for e-tolls to pay back debt. (And then e-tolls will continue as is.)
