This is true. Many people don't realise that the problems Eskom and the country face today stem from government interventions and decisions back in the late 90' and early 2000's.
Eskom issued many warnings to government stating that the generation capacity needs to be expanded so as to facilitate sufficient maintenance on existing assets and to meet economic growth while keeping the national grid stable.
Government chose to ignore these warnings (typical short sightedness our government still suffers from today) stating that private players need to come into the market (obviously because the government was to benefit from the ensuing corruption).
More warnings were issues to deaf ears. Things got worse. And then...when brown stuff hit the fan, the government said hey Eskom, build power stations, what is wrong with you!
That's when then the media and public jumped onto the bandwagon as they always do.
Yes Eskom, isn't perfect, I am not defending them, they have their problems. But as mentioned, a lot of them stem from the government sticking their sticky fingers into everything.
I actually feel for Eskom, they are the scape goats in this whole saga.
I don't. Yeah government is incompetent but Eskom transformed themselves into oblivion with BEE. Getting rid of experience workers to satisfy some political idea then not being able to do your business, you gotta expect flak when stupid decisions return to bite you in the ass.
Then blame government.Again, BEE is a government initiative, one which they are especially strict with when it comes to parastatals.
