Stop picking on Eskom: minister

Yes Eskom, isn't perfect, I am not defending them, they have their problems. But as mentioned, a lot of them stem from the government sticking their sticky fingers into everything.

I actually feel for Eskom, they are the scape goats in this whole saga.

I don't. Yeah government is incompetent but Eskom transformed themselves into oblivion with BEE. Getting rid of experience workers to satisfy some political idea then not being able to do your business, you gotta expect flak when stupid decisions return to bite you in the ass.
 
And yet Eskom still pays mega bonuses. this while "begging" for money. How about this I blame both Eskom and government in equal parts.
 
i guess they would want us to stop picking at JZ too, and madam e-toll, and and...?
stop wasting money, stop employing useless people to replace skilled workers, start serving the public the way public service should work, then we talk again.
huge bonusses to management and ministers, while services go down is not going to win public sympathy or support

Again, BEE is a government initiative, one which they are especially strict with when it comes to parastatals.
 
The really important question is what needs to be done to fix some of the current problems.

Government needs to expedite regulations to allow the private sector to play a larger role in power generation - both larger projects and smaller projects (such as private investment in rooftop generation)

There needs to be more focus on alternative energy (which allows small, local projects and creates employment) and less on the large nuclear projects - which (based on actual track record of any large SA projects) will end up being 3x more expensive than budgeted and taking 2-3x as long, and will also become embroiled in corruption and nepotism scandals.

Energy conservation measures in buildings needs to be mandatory and properly regulated

Municipalities must have proper management and technical skill sets (or lose the right to manage power distribution) and must budget adequately for re-capitalisation

Eskom needs to be held to account (together with the minister) and properly managed. It's senior management must be held accountable for performance.
 
I am currently being load shedded, so I will pick on the official electricity supplier in South Africa, and that means Eskom. The government is also to blame for letting things get so out of control at Eskom. Why do they deserve to get bonuses when I am sitting without electricity which is their core business to supply to me? Wish I could see how their performance evaluations are conducted. :mad:
 
Am sure if all was well these guys wud have been getting compliments
