I'm a first time poster and I've been reading the forums for a few weeks now. Based on independant reviews, personal chats with technical experts and Neotel technical managers, I purchased the NeoFlex 2 year contract last week. Let me say the only thing I have been disappointed with was that my account was not activated when I collected my modem. This was resolved within an hour of making a very quick phone call.
I have now connected two PC's and my Wii wirelessly and I am beyond pleased with the results. I am in an area that requires an external antenna, and after purchasing one of Poynting Direct's antennas and installing it myself, I am getting between 60 to 120KB/s... way beyond what I expected.
The fact is that Neotel is very, VERY new to the market. They've only recently introduced their high speed internet solution, and within four months of my initial investigations, they have TRIPLED their coverage. Granted, I am in metropolitan JHB, but still this is a very impressive service. What you people need to realise before you whine your hearts out is that any service related company needs time before they can guarantee the features of their product. Currently, Neotel is struggling to provide an ideal service for all it's subscribers, but they are actually doing something about it! New towers, higher load capacity, fibre networks... this is a helluva lot more than TelScum is doing!
If you're expecting a 4gb/s constant connection immediately with full latency, you have two options: The first option (defeatist), stick with Telkom and all their crap. The second option (idealist), go live in London or the US and get true digital fibre network connectivity.
For the realists that live on the same planet I do, be prepared to have patience with Neotel. It has been proven time and time again in business that savvy early adopters are those who benefit the most in future. I feel I am one of these early adopters because I have gotten the cheapest "broadband" connection available in SA, and I am BY FAR surpassing services levels and speed offered by iBurst or 3G. AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!!!! I wholeheartedly believe that by December, my NeoFlex connection will double in speed and stability.
Now, for all you naysayers who have nothing better to do than whine about their lives and every little thing that pops into their meaningless minds: Go on to YouTube and look for videos by a guy named Chris Crocker. This idiot has become famous for whining online about anything that peaks his interest. Clearly he has an audience, but sadly, you naysayers do not.
If you're so unhappy about Neotel, go to Telkom!! Let no-one say that you're starved for alternatives today. In fact, South Africa (still considered a third world economy) has one of the fastest growing digital and online industries in the world. However, if you choose to relieve yourself from the shackles of oppression, please remember that choosing an early adopter will have teething problems. In light of this, I think Neotel is doing a wonderful job of addressing customer requests and complaints.
I'd like to hear some responses about this... do you really think it is justified to sit and whine about a service that YOU signed up for? And is Neotel really that bad? I think at this point it may not be an ideal business solution, but I strongly believe it will be in a few short months.
A VERY pleased NeoFlex subscriber.
