I'm a first time poster and I've been reading the forums for a few weeks now. Based on independant reviews, personal chats with technical experts and Neotel technical managers, I purchased the NeoFlex 2 year contract last week. Let me say the only thing I have been disappointed with was that my account was not activated when I collected my modem. This was resolved within an hour of making a very quick phone call.

I have now connected two PC's and my Wii wirelessly and I am beyond pleased with the results. I am in an area that requires an external antenna, and after purchasing one of Poynting Direct's antennas and installing it myself, I am getting between 60 to 120KB/s... way beyond what I expected.

The fact is that Neotel is very, VERY new to the market. They've only recently introduced their high speed internet solution, and within four months of my initial investigations, they have TRIPLED their coverage. Granted, I am in metropolitan JHB, but still this is a very impressive service. What you people need to realise before you whine your hearts out is that any service related company needs time before they can guarantee the features of their product. Currently, Neotel is struggling to provide an ideal service for all it's subscribers, but they are actually doing something about it! New towers, higher load capacity, fibre networks... this is a helluva lot more than TelScum is doing!

If you're expecting a 4gb/s constant connection immediately with full latency, you have two options: The first option (defeatist), stick with Telkom and all their crap. The second option (idealist), go live in London or the US and get true digital fibre network connectivity.

For the realists that live on the same planet I do, be prepared to have patience with Neotel. It has been proven time and time again in business that savvy early adopters are those who benefit the most in future. I feel I am one of these early adopters because I have gotten the cheapest "broadband" connection available in SA, and I am BY FAR surpassing services levels and speed offered by iBurst or 3G. AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!!!! I wholeheartedly believe that by December, my NeoFlex connection will double in speed and stability.

Now, for all you naysayers who have nothing better to do than whine about their lives and every little thing that pops into their meaningless minds: Go on to YouTube and look for videos by a guy named Chris Crocker. This idiot has become famous for whining online about anything that peaks his interest. Clearly he has an audience, but sadly, you naysayers do not.

If you're so unhappy about Neotel, go to Telkom!! Let no-one say that you're starved for alternatives today. In fact, South Africa (still considered a third world economy) has one of the fastest growing digital and online industries in the world. However, if you choose to relieve yourself from the shackles of oppression, please remember that choosing an early adopter will have teething problems. In light of this, I think Neotel is doing a wonderful job of addressing customer requests and complaints.

I'd like to hear some responses about this... do you really think it is justified to sit and whine about a service that YOU signed up for? And is Neotel really that bad? I think at this point it may not be an ideal business solution, but I strongly believe it will be in a few short months.

A VERY pleased NeoFlex subscriber.

All I have to say to the entire post ..... is LOL. I'm glad that I've gone back to Telkom ... no more endless crap with Neotel.

You put up a brave fight for Neotel, which is only based on your personal experience. Have you thought about all the subscribers, and based on this forum there are quick a few, that are getting a raw deal. Would you still be willing to wait (and pay) until December for Neotel to get their ducks in a row if your connection was erratic and/or dead slow?

Ok, so i have to pay R1000 a month for a service that does not work? I dont care if they are new or old, they advertise a service and i make use of that service. If theyr service is going to be as **** as it is now, then why do i have to pay R1000? why not let me pay R50 wile you sort out your problems?

Because in the end I am a customer , i don't care if your company is having trouble or your technical people are stupid, I pay for a service and you have to render that service to me.

LOL!!!

Dude, that's like saying you're glad to have Hitler as your leader because you're not Jewish!

I have just moved into a new house after renting for 4 years, and I have made specific rules that I will NEVER subscribe to Telkom or DSTV because they're both ripoffs. I'd include Eskom as well, but sadly there no alternative electricity suppliers. Thank goodness my house has gas

As I said, my area is considered to have weak signal and needs and external antenna. So with said antenna installed, I am getting a really good service which is only going to get better.

As for getting out of a 24 month contract, check the coverage map and find an area that doesn't have coverage. Then phone Neotel and tell them you've moved there! Easy innit? But clearly people prefer to whine than think of real solutions.

On the best days, I am a pessimist about services in SA, but Neotel has really impressed me. Maybe it's because I am only signing up now and feeling the benefits of their enhanced coverage, but this decision was made after months of exhaustive research. Maybe if you guys did more research instead of whining, you would know what you're getting yourselves in for!! Dumbasses!

And to Borrells....

Dude, read my post... my area needs an external antenna, thereby making it the second worst kind of area to be in, the worst being an area with no coverage, in which case you wouldn't be able to sign up for NeoFlex anyway! If you're getting bad coverage, contact Poynting direct, pay R1000 for an antenna and your problems will be a thing of the past!

If you guys are not willing to set up your services correctly and to work the most efficiently, then you have noone to blame but yourselves.

I'm currently battling to get decent download speeds with Neotel! 2 - 5kbs is really pathetic, many disconnections, and lots of hard reset's i have to do manually!!! I have a strong signal, so it must be tower congenstion!

yeah, wait until they move your coverage, like they have done to a lot of people here ... not to mention when, despite being in Excellent coverage, you suddenly never get more than one bar and 30kbps .... then come back and be all Neotel-jolly ;)

No! If and when you sign up and they claim your area has fantastic coverage, when you get it and it has fantastic coverage, and a few weeks or months down the line it diminishes to downright $hit coverage... then that is entirely NEOTEL's fault

So you enjoy your Neotel service - honestly I do hope this, but when you come back in a few months and complain, we will remind you that WE told you so!

Have a nice day!

you're advising dishonesty and expecting integrity.

Bwaaahahahahahahaha.

Bye.

Ok, I will keep an open mind and provide regular updates... but I really think the teething problems they experienced previously are a thing of the past. We shall see what we shall see, right gents? Til then... happy downloading for me... sorry for you! HAHA

INTEGRITY??? It's not integrity buddy... it's making lemonade out of lemons! I believe the consumer is right, and any company (including Neotel, who I have not had any problems with and hopefully won't) that is placing it's customers at a disadvantage must be dealt with in whatever way possible.

I work in the service industry servicing the UK client market, a much more discerning and questioning market than SA. Also, the UK market knows what their rights are and fights to have them enforced, even if that fight includes taking "alternative" measures.

I was unhappy with Vodacom and after much arguing and fighting, I got out of a two year contract and I got a refund of my last three months bills. So my integrity is intact because I know I will make sure whichever company I deal with provides me with the service I pay for.

As for Neotel, I will continue praising them until I have problems. If I have said problems, I will follow whatever course I need to to resolve these problems. It's called being an informed and prudent consumer... something you guys clearly know nothing about, judging by the lack of research I see in your posts!

Companies often state to their employees that the customer is always right - its the BIGGEST lie! - FAIL!

Customers will say anything to get away with a better deal! So no, they are not always right!

Yep, that's how it works.

To be fair, I refer to a recent thread about Sybaritic - they got praises from many people on here for their fantastic service!

So its not impossible for Neotel to get Praise - if only they will pull their socks up! The resent Talk about improvements (by RPM) is just that, Talk! Until there is actual Improvements, Neotel sucks!.
