It's beautiful ... and surprisingly much more expensive than Le Creuset !

Why would one want those? (Genuine question) I can see that it might have a novelty/cuteness factor for some people, but does it also have a practical benefit?

You probably will, and you won't be able to blame your kettle.

Nah, whatever floats your boat. It's not as if your buying an insanely pricey kettle negatively affects anyone else. All I'm saying is I just don't get it. As long as my R89 kettle from Pick 'n Pay actually boils water, I couldn't care less.

In all fairness, you are right. It's just that sometimes, in addition to achieving its purpose, it is also nice to please the eye when it comes to appliances

My husband would side with you on this one, though - him and I have agreed to disagree over the issue of "form over function", versus "function over form" !

A stovetop kettle will use more electricity as the element is not immersed in the water, some heat will be wasted.

Well I am one of the mad ones, I purchased a R99.00 stainless stove top kettle for gas. Works well and whistles when boiling. Then I purchased a Philips digital kettle. Saves energy by switching of in time at selected temperatures. Works fine. Cost was to much but who cares, if you want something you want something. I used to buy kettles on a regular basis, this Phillips so far lasted well.

I use the red le creuset kettle on gas, love the damn thing especially the kitch whistle at the end.
