Yes, microwave would probably be the most efficient.

If you're going to go for a stove-top kettle, go gas.

Why would one want those? (Genuine question) I can see that it might have a novelty/cuteness factor for some people, but does it also have a practical benefit?

well my previous kettle is in the process of badly falling apart. the strainer sieve part thing broke off/ boiled off over the years, and the springtop lid broke - so i have to pry the kettle open to put water in. i agree that the price is rough. but i dont waste money on other crap, so i might as well buy something i really like.

Yes. The stove plate also takes longer to heat up.

:D well le creuset isnt some lead based paint knock off, or a 'hart' aluminium kettle so i wont get lead poisoning or develop alzheimers later on. :erm::p
and yes, the money spent on the kettle makes everything boiled inside it taste like unicorn milk.

You probably will, and you won't be able to blame your kettle. :D

Nah, whatever floats your boat. It's not as if your buying an insanely pricey kettle negatively affects anyone else. All I'm saying is I just don't get it. As long as my R89 kettle from Pick 'n Pay actually boils water, I couldn't care less.
 
hah! well some of us need to feel better about our mundane lives by buying ridiculously expensive appliances. :D

Not mine :) ... faster to boil water on my ceramic stove than the kettle but a kettle is still more efficient as its automatic. This is why a microwave is not effective as it cannot determine when the water is hot enough.

I suspect you might be the exception to the rule :D

Just had a though, when you rush out to buy that stovetop kettle make sure to buy a new stove as well...

Not the exception, its just a very expensive stove - was my bonus last year so a sore point in the house. This year I'm buying my 50" LED with my bonus instead :)
 
i'm wary of the enamel coating on le creuset. without mollycoddling it looks as if it could easily chip. i went for the Brabantia stainless kettle but it depends on your kitchen.
