Hi everyone.

I want to know if there is anybody else in the Strand area experiencing problems with their ADSL line. I am at MWEB and they can not seem to find any fault, so they logged a line problem to Telkom. I am very sure that this will take forever to be resolved.

Thank you

My ADSL lines based in Strand is in working order, but I know that Telkom technicians are doing various repairs today in Strand. The Mweb account in Strand is also working.

well Ive been having routing problems with telkom the way the rout my internet makes my ms very high when i join a server in usa and then i keep getting disconnected and its so frustrating when they use longest way to rout your internet just because it cheap for them that's the only reason why uncapped is getting so cheap lately there is always a catch with them and i dont even wane bother phoning them because image trying to tell them that the way they rout your internet is bad any suggestions ??

Yep, having high latency problems - specifically on hop 2 of the traceroute and much reduced download speed. I had a Telkom technician at my house today and he checked the copper in and around my apartment. He cleaned up some corrosion in the distro outside, but it didn't have any impact at all.

It's not an MWEB issue, since my backup Afrihost account, and the Telkom guest account, also shows the same problem.

I've made quite a detailed post in this thread (relating to similar problems at our business in Somerset West): http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...erset-west?p=10223570&viewfull=1#post10223570

EDIT: Shucks, only realized just now that the OP posted this on the 4th of April. Sorry about that. Guess it's a good time to ask if anyone else are having problems right now?

UPDATE: Service has been restored as of 13:18 on 24 April 2013

There seems to be an ADSL problem in the Strand area again - not sure. My router won't connect to the exchange - giving an LCP down message. Anyone else experiencing this?

I am in Helderberg/Spanish Farm area, and all 8 of my ADSL lines died at about the same time about 45 minutes ago. One wireless backup still luckily up. None of the Afrihost, Telkom and Webafrica accounts are working on the lines. LCP is failing so it is likely a Telkom issue?

Issues in Durbanville area too. ADSL line is up, but the ISP connection dropped at around 22:35 and 23:30. Came back up around 5-10 mins later.

Came back a 20 minutes ago or so. Weird thing is that even our 8ta 3G backup went down.

Confirmed that the 8ta 3G went down exactly the same time our ADSL lines went down - two at our office and mine at home.

Also not getting any response from my office router in Strand - line must be down as well.

I had to hard reset both my Pfsense router boxes to get the connections alive again. It's weird because they continue to attempt to dial a PPPoE connection to a modem which I didn't reset. Somehow the PPPoE sessions got stuck or something.

High latency since 12/07/2013

Since late last night, I've been having some high-latency problems that looks very much like congestion at our Strand exchange. I'm running a pingplotter session and the trace route reveals a lot of 18 to 110ms, sometimes up to 200ms, spikes on hop 2.

As per usual, Telkom has refreshed my ports, my SNR/Att is normal, no router congestion etc. The problem seems to point to hop 2 specifically and ofc, that affects everything up the line from there on. This has happened quite a few times over the last 2 years and while it's quite "mellow" at the moment, it's usually a precursor to much larger latency problems. Also, feedback from Telkom is very limited.

Anyone else having this?

Update: As from 12:28, everything seems stable again

Update: Problems are back again as of 13:49

I went down at 23h26 yesterday. Just phoned Telkom now, they said my line looked OK, was syncing, etc. but it looked as though there was a problem at the exchange. Hopefully they get it sorted soon.
