Hi Guys, i'm having a strange problem, i have a motherboard with a CPU and everything it boots up when i just attach the Fan but don't "tie" it down.

Anyone got an idea why this is happening?

When i tie up the fan NOTHING happens, just starts but no noise.

Do you mean "click it onto the heatsink of the cpu"?

Perhaps the cpu fins/blades are touching either a wire or are too close to the heat sink?

Many Mobos will not start if they do not detect a fan as spinning.

No its clicked on, its a older type of heatsink, where you took two clips on each side which pull the heatsink down like this :

But once i pull those clips down the pc will not boot.It starts (you can hear and see the fan running but there is no beep to say the pc is starting)

Is this an old board?

I've experienced this before on an old board with a bad joint, when "clipping" the HSF down the board was flexing and I assume some circuitry wasn't happy.

Solved it by chucking some of that foam padding that comes in the motherboard box under the board stopping the "flex" as such. Worked for a while until the board gave in completely :)

Try it with the board/CPU/RAM/PSU on a workbench (ie: out of the case).

You may find when attaching the HSF securely in the case you're having a grounding problem as the board "flexes" (although I doubt it, but try anyway).

I was wondering have u reseated everything? Take out the ram and unplug everything and then put the fan on and clip it try starting it it should make noice. Then start pluging all the other things back one by one and see if it runs.
Does the fan spin?

The fan spins, but it does not POST, Thats the strange thing,

I actually moved the Mobo from one board to another but it still gives the same strange result.

What can i put on the back of the board to force it to go straight again when the cpu fan is Tied down?

Then I think the motherboard is going and is starting to die slowly.

I know I know but what else could explain this maybe sent the teckie a pm and ask him about it.I have never encounter this.
