So I used to host a domain of a client, the client changed his hosting to IS in March. The client put through and update to Uniforum to update the name servers.

All seems great.. or not.

The client tells me they cant email one of my domains, so I assume its the DNS. I ping the domain... and it responds with my IP address and not the new IP address. So I think perhaps theres something wrong with my local DNS servers or something.. perhaps they have the old DNS cached... so I login to a server I setup in California two weeks ago. Brand new server and it doesnt query my older servers for DNS. I ping the domain.. and the old IP comes up.

I log into the old DNS servers and I see the records are still there (even though neither of my name servers are listed with Uniforum), so I delete them and try again.... from another remote location with no association to my network.. and the old IP comes up.

If I query the IS name servers listed with Uniforum all the new IP information and records are there as they should be... no mention at all of my old IP.

Okay.. now I am confused:confused: What on earth could be resolving the old records? The dns was changed over months ago so surely theyre not still cached?

I'd say start with this box, and look at what it returns as the SOA for that domain. Somewhere something is messed up - I've never heard of DNS taking this long to propagate.

You need to update the MX record to modify the mail delivery path. When you ping the domain, you ping the A record. Try use nslookup. Type Set type=MX to lookup MX records and then query again. This should then point to your old record. You can try www.mxtoolbox.com. Then ask your ISP to modify the MX record....

Edit : Sorry, reread the OP and my post above is BS. I'm on a roll so another stupid question, but are you querying the absolute FQDN?

But I almost made the same mistake initially when I read 'The client tells me they cant email one of my domains'.
