So once again my computer has decided to throw a problem that can’t be solved at me again.

The area in the taskbar does this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb2okwf483A ( I though a video would be a better way of demonstrating it)

However I have not “googled” it yet because I don’t know what it is called. It happened yesterday while I was watching a video in Windows Media Player, no additional codecs (ie. Only the ones that come with Windows) running the latest Nvidia drivers (280.26) and the graphics card are running in SLI.

So is this a hardware or software problem and how do I get it fixed?

Oh yeah, games and so on run fine, well the ones that I have played (COD4, and AOE online, Minesweeper)

Thanks

hhmmm yeah try some older drivers .

remember to driver sweeper in safe mode, to make sure other drivers is off.

looks like a software problem.

if you want a quick way of fixing it just format, reinstall :P

I'll try that as well, but if it is a permanent fix

I might as well just use Windows XP, if it comes to that

Or get a real os.

Jokes, I find windows 7 actually runs quite a bit faster without all the bling (on my laptop) so you might just find it handy, still works and looks much better than xp :)

Also, where did you get the Nvidia driver? Windows update or nvidia.com? (try the one you havent yet).

Looks suspiciously like a video driver problem but it might also be hardware-related - could be flaky vram over-exercised by the video, which is why it's intermittent. Also, is your PSU beefy enough for the SLi?

Sidenote: Be very suspicious of tech advice that starts with "format and re-install". Ninety-nine percent of the time it's either from a fanboi/antiboi or from someone who knows even less than you.

Rubbish mate, with xp and windows vista/7 a fresh reload sorted many of my problems out. You are assuming windows never has any issues which i am afraid if you think that you could well be the one who knows very little but windows. It is the fastest way to cure a windows a issue which seems not to ever have any issues according to your statement. Reloading windows even if it is not windows related cleans the entire drive of rubbish drivers, codecs and so on so you can start fresh step by step to see where the issue came from. More often than not a fresh reload has been the fix to software/driver related issues. The best is those nasty blue screens, you spend hours and days trying to locate it, you reload and it is magically gone except the really clever folk who think they know so much sat for days when a simple reload worked and solved the issue :D. Personally i remove windows issues first because nothing is more annoying than wasting time on a problem that is resolved by a fresh install.

When you reloaded windows what driver did use? I doubt you need to turn the bling off or we would all have this issue surely? Try load vlc media player and see if the same problem exists. At least by reloading windows you have ruled out windows or any software you loaded as being the main cause. Does it happen when you use only one vga card?

As well. It actually came from my 98 tech days. There is nothing worse than spending an entire day trying to fix something that a simple 1 hour reload sorts out. If that makes me a fanboi then i am good with that :D. Saved me plenty hours as opposed to the uninstalling this reloading that only for me to end up reloading windows , the time wasted trying to be some amazing tech doesn't seem worth the effort when a simple reload fixes many things, mostly because it removes any rubbish gathered over the months which can take much longer to uninstall and sort out. Fresh install FTW :D.

It looks like your DPI settings are not compatible with something in your setup. If you set windows DPI to 100% than it should be fixed :)

let me know if it works. Also you can right click the program and choose disable visual effects when run.

I ended up reinstalling again and using older drivers. (270.xx ones)

And there is nothing like that new windows feeling you get after reinstalling.

Your a noob for doing it though according to archer :D. Yea fresh windows is awesome although i find windows 7 doesn't have that slow down issue vista and xp had but then again i run ssd now so perhaps it's due to the hdd more than OS that is gets slower.

So it was the drivers? Can you replicate the problem by installing the bad drivers?
