Strange ringing tones…

Has anybody else noticed that the tone generated whilst a mobile call is ringing has changed to the long, single sound that one normally associates with continental Europe / the USA? This seems to be somewhat random, although it does seem to be consistent if calling Telkom mobile from Telkom mobile. Has anybody else experienced this and, if so, do you know what is causing it?
