Hey guys, firstly no I don't pirate :)

I need some help from the wise peeps here.

So... My utorrent will randomly close. ( Not always but most of the times)

Scenario: I loaded all the torrents I wanted to download starting at 12AM till 5:59AM. I went to bed woke up at 3am just to see an empty desktop and torrents not open anymore.

This happens every time.

Has someone maybe experienced something similar ?

What do you mean empty desktop? Do you mean they didn't download?

Like you have the application(uTorrent) open and then when I returned the application was closed and only the desktop visible meaning the application closed, but the desktop is still open eliminating the scenario of the computer maybe going into sleep which he does not do btw.

(e.g. Maximized uTorrent window closes and process disappears from Task Manager)

( Sorry if that was not clear in the original post )

Maybe check the event viewer on the PC, if it closed (crashed) there should be a entry in the log. (Just to confirm it's closing/crashing...)

Also make sure the setting to close UTorrent is off (a tick box somewhere that will auto close UTorrent, depends on what the settings are...

silly question here, didnt it go into the system tray next to the clock? sometimes mine does exactly that.....

I also once thought all my torrents got deleted accidentally, only to realize I selected feeds by accident

I went through the event viewer as that was my first instinct, but could not find anything related to utorrent.

I looked for this and it's never selected, unless there is somewhere else I am missing... But i searched all over and everything seems fine.

Definitely not the case as when I open the system tray after torrents closed itself the utorrent icon will be there briefly for a second and then disappear.

Edit: Every time I start downloading, utorrent vanishes silently after about an hour into the download queue (seeding is no problem). It's been going on like this for weeks. It could take several hours, but most recently it's not much longer than around 1 hour until it vanishes silently.

I don't know what logs are needed or what information you guys need from me to investigate?

Don't use uTorrent myself but some googling suggests the problem might be linked to the "max connections" (or similar) setting, 200 connections was recommended.

I use transmission on linux for my torrenting and have reduced settings like max peers, downloads, connections over time to get it running smoothly - definitely makes a difference in my case

How does it compare why would you prefer it over utorrent and even if I do install it, reinserting the almost 150 torrents I'm seeding would be more than just a pain in the neck. The re-checking alone will take ages.

There is no ads. It has all the features and works on all the OS'ses. Just add the torrents one by one.

Ads don't bother me, if there is no significant speed increase I don't really have a incentive to use it. Nothing personal i'm sure it's good, but I have been using utorrent for 9 years now since it's initial release back in 2005 nothing compares.

I will DEFINITELY look into this I think if I recall correctly mine is set at 5000 and 4500.

edit: I see a new version was released few days ago. I will install that and see if it might fix the issue.

I downloaded it now, I will do all the tweaks I can in utorrent then tonight I will run both utorrent and qbittorrent.

Then if I wake up tomorrow and qbittorrent is still alive, I will ditch utorrent after all these years of trust.

uTorrent is a great app, but it can be annoying to have ads on your desktop apps. Fortunately, these can be disabled in the Advanced settings.

To turn off ads and offers, open Options > Preferences > Advanced. Here you'll find a large list of flags for the app and a filter box. Search for and disable the following flags:

offers.left_rail_offer_enabled/left_rail_offer
gui.show_plus_upsell
offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled/sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled
bt.enable_pulse
gui.show_notorrents_node
offers.content_offer_autoexec

These flags may be named slightly differently depending on which version of the app you're using. Be careful when editing things if you're not entirely sure what they do.

Back on topic, thor, are you using bitdefender? It seems to close utorrnet.

Another issue could be that you are maxing out the memory allotment for a 32bit app, how many downloads are you running at the same time?
