Hi

I recently purchased a Samsung LED Smart TV 6 series and I connected it to my home network via LAN. I am also able to watch movies from via my home network using the Allshare app. I would like to purchase 3D glasses and would like to know if you are able to stream 3D movies from a network. ie. stream a 3D movie from my pc via LAN to my TV:D

Only if you have 3D Lan cable :erm:
bwaaaaaaaahahahaha awesome!

But in all seriousness if you can stream videos to your TV already then you can stream 3D videos in mkv, avi or whatever format works. If the 3D video is Side by Side, just select side by side on your remote and there you go 3D video streaming

Only potential problem I can think of is that your network might not be able to handle the amount of data being transferred. Normal HD is already pushing a 100MB network quite a bit. With 3D, if I understand correctly, you will have to double the bandwidth requirements at least - i.e. if you don't have a gigabit network, I think it might be very painful. Needless to say, wireless probably won't work.

Something related that might be beneficial: http://www.ciena.com/corporate/blog/How-much-bandwidth-does-Broadcast-HD-video-use.html

make the first post a good post

first post!! :D

i have the LG equivalent(can't remember the model number) and streaming via PS3 over wireless n
works 100%, no stuttering or lag

like Vegeta said, just select side by side mode on the tv and you are good to go

Who in South Africa has Full-HD 3D rips? Where would he get the bandwidth to download it?
In any case even HD Side by Side rips already halves resolution to divide the screen in half bringing things back to normal 2D size.
And if its at 720p even wireless wont skip a beat. 1080p might even be completely doable even on wifi

I have the same LG its passive 3D so horizontal(i think) resolution is already halved. Streaming = No probs!

Great News! Thanks guys.

I understand what you guys said pertaining the the bandwidth. The thing is this is a home network and I have the movie on my pc which is connected to the same network. See my pc is connected to my router wired and the same for the TV, that said I dont see why bandwidth would be a potential problem. Maybe Im missing something!

So I guess im off to buy some 3D glasses:D

Get content first, its scarce to say the least! And when you have it share it with me :D
And also the price for those glasses are gonna suck! Active shutters are expensive... luckily I have the LG which uses passive so glasses are like R20, wouldn't want to be you now!

I understand that 3D Passive Glasses are cheap but the only reason I was sold for the active 3D is because it gives you the Full HD 3D which is a plus and also the depth of the 3d is better.

R5 actually :D
I have the same TV and I use the glasses from the cinema. Also, I've found a lot of 3D content here: http://nzbmatrix.com/

I understand you were told that but in many online reviews they say the depth of the 3D is no different also you do get Full HD but not in both eyes, apparently your brain is clever enough to put it back together and most reviewers notice very little difference between active and passive 3D. Also there is no flickering which is a plus.
That's why I personally went for passive, I've used both and can confirm I see no difference sometimes the active ones seem brighter but then in most cases it might be settings.

Heres a surprising article and btw I dont agree that passive is superior to active or the other way around. Its just that the results are surprising and almost contradict what we average joes know about 3D

Interesting article... I must just say that I was given the option between passive and active at the store and for me the active 3D gave me a better picture. I think that if the cost of the active shutter 3D glasses comes down like more then half the price there would be alot more active 3D tvs sold because it does give a better picture.

Hi Guys

just to let you guys know that I went and bought the 3D Active shutter glasses and was able to watch 3D via the Allshare app ie streaming 3D.

Also I would like to know if anyone know what is the best software out there to convert mkv to mkv sbs? I also want to know if there is software that you can convert 2D to 3D?

Not really possible/practical. For the proper 3D effect, the original content must have been shot/created in 3D. 3D mkvs are usually Bluray 3D discs ripped to SBS (i.e. no 2D to 3D conversion).

BTW as asked previously, what model of Samsung SmartTV do you have?

Thanks for the info on the mkvs details. I would like to start a collection on 3D movies but there isnt really alot out there so I was thinking of software where I was able to convert the mkv movies I have to 3D.... And to answer you question its the D6000 series

Well then, if you're looking for more 3D content, there's quite a bit of streamed stuff out there, if you have a fast Internet connection. The SmartTV Youtube app is 3D capable and you'll find a fair amount of stuff on Youtube; trailers, demos, user-generated clips etc.

Also Samsung's Explore 3D app and library contain loads of 3d content; trailers, demos, music videos and documentaries (e.g. most of the IMAX 3D collection). Due to rights restrictions its not made available in SA by default, but you can hack/switch the SmartTV region to download/use the app. Note your Internet connection must be able to sustain ~3.5+ Mbps, mine peaks at 3Mbps so I get a bit of stop/start.
