Hi Guys

i was wondering on the following:

when i stream a movie, i have no buffering issues or stuttering etc
when im on the Supersport app, i get buffering and lag etc when streaming a game

im on a 2mb line granted, but can anybody shed any light on this? im assuming, that the movie is being picked up from a specific location? Im also assuming that because my line is only a 2mb line, and that the game is live, that is the reason?

Please explain this to me, and advise if i should just upgrade my line to a 4mbps line, and if that will be better for streaming sport

Thanks

The problem is that the DSTV servers are too slow/don't have enough bandwidth.

thanks.. I did notice that when i went to other sites for sport, that i would get pretty much the same issues. I was hoping a line increase would at least help with that, but now not so sure

Yeh, A line increase will help for sure.
When I had 10Mb I had no Supersport issues.

I've not experienced supersport server side issues lately at all, but you may want to upgrade that speed for this service to avoid it jumping quality settings...

A line increase would allow you to stream higher quality though, especially if there is someone else on your network.

I'm a higher bandwidth speed enthusiast though :p (Can still only get 10Mbps here :( )

I really dont want to go to a 10 meg line, if im honest. I got alot of feedback that a 4MB line would and should be sufficient for streaming. Then again, do i go 4meg, or do i go up to 10meg. Im really wanting to save some money, hence not wanting to go to 10 now

would you say a bump to a 4 meg line, would be okay? im currently on a 2mb uncapped account with Telkom. and looking to change to a 4 but also going capped

4Mb should be fine.
I just stated 10Mb as it was my experience previously.

For supersport streaming 10Mbps is best. 4Mbps either temporarily saturates the line using the supersport auto quality algorithms or ends up bouncing between quality settings...

Thanks DJ and the rest.. pretty frustrating as one would really have to upgrade/downgrade here and there to test what works best.

I can tell you what I know works superbly on my network. 10Mbps line and premium uncapped. Or 10Mbps line with a home capped account. Many customers have no issues on 4Mbps uncapped and capped, but all issues we've identified have been with slow lines, and the 4Mbps lines falling into the cusp of supersport algorithms for quality...

4Mb would allow you to stream 720p on YouTube and 1080p with buffering (all depends on the video of course).

EDIT: Reading through this website: http://www.animafelina.it/test-vide...p-2160p-max-bitrate-which-compresses-youtube/ , it seems that with the new HTML5 compression you could maybe stream 1080p on 4Mbps. Quite interesting.

EDIT2:

HTML5 with VP9:
1- Youtube compresses to 2160p (4K) (3840Ă—2160) with H.264 AVC video at a bit rate equal to 18 Mbps
2- Youtube compresses to (2K) 1440p (2560Ă—1440) with H.264 AVC video at a bit rate equal to 7.549 Mbps
3- Youtube compresses 1080p (1920Ă—1080) H.264 AVC video at a bit rate equal to 2.804 Mbps
4- Youtube compresses to 720p (1280Ă—720) with H.264 AVC video at a bit rate equal to 1.644 Mbps

IE with Flash:
1- Youtube compresses to 2160p (4K) (3840Ă—2160) with a bit rate video codec VP9 equal to 13 Mbps
2- Youtube compresses to (2K) 1440p (2560Ă—1440) with a bit rate video codec VP9 equal to 6.664 Mbps
3- Youtube compresses 1080p (1920Ă—1080) with a bit rate video codec VP9 equal to 2.086 Mbps
4- Youtube compresses to 720p (1280Ă—720) with a bit rate video codec VP9 equal to 1.229 Mbps

Will not get 720p on SuperSport, at least not consistently, and when it does it saturates the line itself. This is the only issue with the auto quality algorithms they have in place...

im not particularly interested in 1080p right now if im honest. I just want the game to not stutter and buffer. Heck the game can be in 480p, if i can get a good enough picture, then im fine with that :)

any idea why SS would have an auto setting in place? and not have a choice to choose the quality?
