guys I wasnt quite sure where to post this... but I reckon the people that WOULD know would be hanging around here

so I wanna setup a streaming video server using media portal. I have a good idea HOW to do it, but what I wanna know is,

Is it possible with a 4MB line considering the upload speed is so pathetic?? Sometime we struggle to watch streaming download, so I guess upload will never work.

But Im just confirming before I throw in the towel(ie) ("you wanna get high???") :D

cheers

It depends on what you want to stream and the quality. Unfortunately you won't be able to stream video with a quality of higher than 320p I suppose. Basically you can upload video on a 4Mbps line as fast as you'll be able to watch on a 512kbps line. Unfortunately that won't cut it if multiple users would like to stream the video.

Depends on what upload your 4mb is running at. Remember not everyones is the same - luck of the draw.

As a reference point: For standard youtube quality, a 384k transfer rate is just short of what you need.

Since you are talking about a media server I guess you don't won't youtube quality, so I'd guesstimate that what you want to do is either not possible w/ adsl upload or only possible under certain conditions. e.g. A few people had 640k upload for a while. That plus a willingness to accept mediocre quality would work.

If on the other hand you rented a bit of space in a data centre then you would not be constrained by ADSL upload.
