Street race turns deadly

This is so bloody stupid of those people.

Don't get me wrong, in my younger days I part took in these races in Voortrekker weg. I'm all grown up now. But that place is a race track on a Sunday evening from 20:00. Why a Why would the spectators run accros the bloody road ? Would they do it on a race track ?

Sad for the kid but WTF was he thinking ?

What?

It is a public road, not a race track.

It doesn't say in the linked article that the pedestrian was a spectator? Anyway, it is irrelevant.

Racetracks are for racing, public roads are for the (responsible) public.

+1
Some people just dont think :(

the time has come to arrest everyone

also the time has come to impound these racers vehicles for life

its dangerous and stupid and should be stopped, as for ppl getting injured during these races i feel nothing for them

its stupid and if you get injured watching something this stupid, thats your problem

Mmm I somehow cant see a bike hitting a pedestrian... Ive only rode a motorbike once, but Im sure any idiot can go around a pedestrian...
Right?

By the sound of it, he just dropped he's front wheel from a wheelie.

Thus he wouldn't be able to control the bike for about 2 seconds as he needs to stabilize first. I would assume he tried but knocked the guy anyway. He swerved, thus the reason him ending up in the pole. That is the way I see it. I might be wrong though

Arrest everyone and fine them all the electronic kit they have on them, ie phones, ipods, etc. throw ll these into a large bin onsite and crush it to dust.

Do the same for the cars and crush the cars.

Folks will learn, either to go racing in volksies or not at all

Right?

lets say he did dodge but the oke tried to dodge the bike as well and they both went the same way

I agree that racing in the street is an absolute no no and hugely irresponsible and I dont for 1 minute condone what these bikers were doing .... but for fudge sake .. dont you look before you cross the road .. the road is right of way for Cars and Busses and Trucks and other nasty things ... pedestrians are supposed to use traffic lights and pavements ...

This is an issue of joint blame I'm afraid .. if it had been a car travelling at 60 it could have done exactly the same thing .. and that would have been within the letter of the law for the driver, and unfortunately he would still be in court sweating through a manslaughter case because of a half asleep pedestrian ...

Anyway .. hope they catch the other guy .. frikken racers ...

Yeah, car @ 60 km\h could do the same thing - but i'm sure the driver of a car traveling at that speed on all four wheels has a much better chance of successfully avoiding a pedestrian that a motorcyclist traveling at whatever speed on one, oh now two, wheels.

Agreed ... but unfortunately this issue boils down to a matter of perspective, and based on that you make your decision as to who was to blame ...

Perspective 1 ) Stupid bikers with no brains
Perspective 2 ) Stupid pedestrian with no eyes

The bikers are definately to blame here .. but unfortunately the pedestrian is also partly to blame ...If the bikers had exercised some intelligence this would not have happened ... similarly if the pedestrian had applied the same principle .. then perhaps it would just be a bike racer into a pole and not a pedestrian aswell.

again ... let me re-iterate .. these bikers were definately in the wrong .. and I agree that they should be prosecuted ...

If the bikers exercised any intelligence, they wouldn't have been racing/doing wheelies. If they hadn't been doing that, this would be a "normal" road accident and we wouldn't be discussing it.

Obviously Im in the wrong, and the very intelligent pedestrian was well within his rights to cross the street without looking .. I humbly apologise (just hope a pedestrian never steps in front of you - a friend of mines life is ruined because of it and he was doing 60 in a car .. of course using your logic he should have just swerved around him .. instead of putting himself needlessly through court proceedings .. stupid driver .. )

Everyone is at fault here, can't single out one person. The bikers should not have been pulling wheelies and stopies, but pedestrians should look before crossing the street. If either one was obeying road rules and used common sense this would not have happened.

My friend hit a pedestrian on a highway (N2 near George) and he was charged and had to go through a criminal trial. The road law clearly states that pedestrians are not to be on highways/motorways and they need to use pedestrian crossings. Has anyone driven through JHB recently people take over the road and look at you like they want to kill you when you hoot for then to get out the way.
