And in a war there are no rules in the game,” said South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) provincial secretary Sipho “KK” Nkosi when quizzed by The Witness on widespread reports of violence and intimidation.
...
Yesterday, strikers apparently threatened and intimidated teachers around the city.

Alexandra High School principal Cilliers Heymans was forced to cancel examinations that were in progress, due to Sadtu members who forced their way on to school premises and told him they would kill him if he remained at the school.

The Witness received reports that union members protested outside the school and assaulted a number of teachers and the principal at about 10 am.
...
“Their rowdy, crass and threatening behaviour included shouting, banging on doors and insulting educators and pupils,” said the educator. The school was forced to immediately end the exams that were in progress.

The scene was described to SAPS in attendance as “total chaos”.

Now my son's school is closed until Monday. Many other schools are closed in PMB because of this intimidation.

:eek::eek:

Exactly the type of people we want teaching or next generation eh?

As far as I am concerned, people who behave like this should not have a job to return to. Fire them and blacklist them so they can't get a job in teaching ever again.

I am starting Home Schooling to keep up with things. Starting tonight with Evolutionary Biology 101.

Q. Name 4 primitive hominids.
A. Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, Homo Neanderthalensis, Homo SADTU

Q. How does Homo SADTU differ from Papio Ursinus?
A. Papio Ursinus has larger brain capacity, but otherwise the two are difficult to distinguish.

Q. Give 3 attributes of Homo SADTU.
A. Excessive Greed. Low Intelligence. Excessive Aggression.

Q. Would you want your daughter to marry one?
A. I'd rather spend a year in Guantanamo Bay.

Exactly, if people can't be civilised they shouldn't be employed, especially in the teaching profession.

what they are saying is it's OK to do crime if the grievance is big enough (in your opinion)

Obviously it is NEVER OK to do crime, and all crime should be treated as crime. If there was an isolated incident where a person was intimidated and assaulted, one would hope that the person would be charged and jailed. Do you think this will happen to these "teachers"?

ive had normal school since monday :)

start exams now though :)

Which school was that?. Heard Howick High was closed as well

Athlone Primary. I believe Merchiston is also closed till "maybe" Monday. The strikers are apparently blocking some streets in town this morning - Loop St for one ( a colleague got delayed for work by this ).

Apparently stikers are coming here to home affairs HQ and people were asked to move their cars from the Petroleum street parking the the Maggs street parking, some have went home, we can also go home if we want. I have not seen one iota of strikers yet...

George Campbell Technical High got sent home at about 09:20 because of threats yesterday and is closed for the rest of the week.

Thing is that most teachers need to go to school cos they not getting paid if they stay away, and teachers do need the money cos they get paid crap. My mum is a teacher but we pretty well off so its not a problem but what about the others that have a house to run and family to support where they are the sole earners in a house.

Kids being intimidated

Kids are being asked to attend their grade 12 exams in civvies at my daughters school because the black kids in particular are being intimidated because they are not "standing in solidarity" with the striking teachers. Why are we so anti kids, education and the next generation in this country? You cannot replace education with politics. You get to a point when the political landscape must settle and people get on with their jobs.. It will all come back. What happens in 20 years time when the current kids are adults?

Saw an interesting calculation when they last had a massive strike. According to the calculation, the pay lost due to strike action would take a crazy number of years to make up for with th 6% they gain. Something like 80 years or so.

Damn lemmings (standing in solidarity of course)

Let's work it out :D

R5000 per month = R250 per day (20 days to make it easy).
6% additional increase = R300 per month
Let us say they get 5% = R250 per month extra.

If they strike for 10 days, they lose R2500 in pay, and it takes 10 months to get it back IF they get their increase.

But, they will most likely eventually settle for 1.5% more than the original 6% offer.
So, R75 more per month.
Loss is still R2500, so
34 months or almost 3 years to make up the money lost in striking.
