Strikes, is anyone here personally affected?

My mom just got a message that their company will be closing on Friday. That's 300+ people who just lost their jobs.

Go numsa you bunch of ****ups.

Yes, thanks to a 3 week strike in our sector last month, we've lost a whole bunch of orders that we could not meet the delivery dates on.

Now all staff is on a 4 day week and 20% pay cut.

I'm jobless thanx to the platinum strike. No contract renewal from the boss, last in first out the other branches is pulling tight so I was chopped.

The SO's company is retrenching 10%, they are a huge multi national, and that was only the platinum sector. This one is going to end up costing another 5-10% their jobs. And then it is strike season and a bunch of the workers will strike for higher wages.

The effect of this strike will only be felt in a few weeks.

banks doesn't differentiate between debt due to economic hardships / strikes and normal non payment. They will have what you owe them on the terms you signed for.

Sometimes one just needs to be pushed in a direction where you can start working for yourself ;) I know that you are in the process of setting something up. Maybe this was your push and you will have the drive to make a success of it.

:)

I was in the process, I just needed the extra time to get the loan, register the company and finish all my personal debt.
Now we are in trouble and I need to get things done ASAP.

So much for THE PLAN. But at least I had one. :)

140 businesses filed for liquidation in rustenburg during the platinum strike. That is only in rustenburg.
And now this strike.

Yes it might have been the push I needed. It's just not how I would have liked to do it. :) never quit your job before you know the other thing is a sure thing. :)

I agree 100%. But sometimes we plan and dream but never take the plunge. In some cases a small push is needed. I know you will succeed ;)

Just to update we had to leave work on Friday as there were a few hundred Numsa members outside and they were expecting trouble... nothing happened though and I got a day off.

Heard on the radio yesterday that the rustenburg municipality is starting to cut off services for non payment , now the recent strikers are all up in arms as they say it's unfair, the logic is not strong with these people

Lol. Your actions have consequences.

Strike all you want just remember all the things you could pay before are also now 6 months behind. That back payment didn't go very far. And guess what. Remember those people that told you that striking was a good idea? They live in huge houses which you are paying for. So not just are you paying for your corrupt government you are double taxed by your union.
