Struggles in business

Tech innovation.
Tech is only a solution in some sectors. As the OP is not specific on the sector, one has to generalize so as to apply to ALL business. For example, your local plumber.... no form of technology is going to help his business if he can't physically do plumbing.

In my line of work as well, if I do not have boots on the ground, I am not earning anything.

I did make a statement. See post #3

Anything else I need to help you with?
If you cared to read my post after that you might have known your answer to be incorrect. Yes please can you help my business do away with innovation and become an outdated dinasaur which you say is fine to have?

I think that is implied since he stated "CEOs and new business software", obviously this excludes the local plummer, but if that local plummer has a tech system in his business, then this applies to him also.

YOUR answer means I am incorrect.......??

Wow...the God of Business has arrived.

All you did was toss some word salad in that post of yours. Generalized buzzwords that have no significance...

You are still a junior. How is this for word salad my young paddawan?

"Customers today are no longer satisfied by the traditional consumer-business relationship. Instead, they expect engaging and informative digital experiences. In order to match these expectations and stay ahead of the curve, organizations must lean into digital transformation. Businesses need to modernize both customer-facing and enterprise applications to support a customer-centric approach to business. Developing a strategy to cloud-enable applications is crucial in gaining and maintaining a competitive advantage, especially when, according to a Forrester study, by 2023, 90 percent of current applications will still be in use, but most won’t have received sufficient modernization investment. This means there’s an opportunity for businesses that invest now in application modernization."

Says a junior. I think I will rather believe IBM. Do not fear, I am here to cut down that ivory tower you are stuck in.
Ag, ok seun.....

Keep living in a world of buzzwords and BS...that have zero application to the current situation ANY business find themselves in due to COVID...as OP clearly mentioned.

Your IBM buzzwords are applicable in the perfect business scenario where all is moonshine and roses already and the question is: "Where to from here""....and not: "How do we survive the economic impact of COVID".

At the moment liquidity is key...cash in the bank is key...cutting costs are key...not buying new toys for the business.

Covid highlighted the importance of business agility and modernization. Covid made many a business hasten modernization since their old ways became invalid overnight. Business that has not invested in modernization and agility are the ones hardest hit by Covid. And here you are suggesting that in order to deal with this lack of agility, is to not invest in making the business more agile. If a business has no money it has no money, then close it. Else if you want your business to be better in the future, more agile to the unforseen, then invest in modernization. If not then your business is stuck and might go under and not grow.

"Now that 2021 is in full swing, what is the one thing most CEOs would like to focus on to ensure they can weather the storm should anything like this happen again"

Read this carefully: "should anything like this happen again" and NOT how to whether the Covid short term impact. How to prevent the impact of something like Covid in the fufture? And you say keep your cash short term. Sorry wrong answer. The answer is invest in modernization and business agility.

The only modernization that was required for most business, was to be able to work from home/remotely...that's why SA ran out of 3G/4G/LTE hardware within a few days after hard lockdown.

Most business already had that capability, but not on the new scale that was suddenly required.

Only in your last post, your started referring to "agility" which obviously refers to not needing an office to do your job. We've all known this for many years...but in SA conservative businesses were suddenly forced into the 21st century concept of "working from home".

This was the most important part of OP's question, which was ignored by you from the get go:

does investing in new or upgraded business software make the cut?
I said No and you said Yes...so: what software?

Wrong. Many businesses that did not invest in online commerce lost out big time. So no, its not only work from home that changed. People also strarted to use online services more, this negatively impacted companies big time.
Most business already had that capability, but not on the new scale that was suddenly required.
Correct, you said "scale", but this need to be able to scale is not only needed just because of remote working. Many other factors require a business to be agile and scale easily.

With agility I am not refering to work from home.

Nowhere does the OP state anything about working from home. It is you that make that wrong assumption. Business agility is not equal to working from home.

Modern software.

Lets take Uber as an example. Uber did invest in modernization so was able to scale down IT costs during the downturn. A company that was hit like this, but were stuck with a system that was difficult to scale, could not save these costs because they have already pumped that money into a system that is not scalable, to have constant high capacity for when its not needed. Working from home is not even really a factor here.

Modern software

You think I am wrong about everything in other words...so congratulations.

Mostly based on your own wrong assumptions, deductions and just plain NOT reading what I actually said.

So this is a waste of time.

At leat I am trying to help you in your wrong ways, but if you truely believe that all that has changed in business is-, and that business agility means-, working from home, then I fear there is not much I can help you with. My fixation with buzzwords sure does pay my bills fortunately for me.

So does my own company as well...

I received an email this morning inviting me to join a free webinar on this EXACT subject.

It came from the guys who sell accounting packages.
